the police can do something, especially if theres dna evidence like in aimee's case. they can see if he's already in their database/ on a sex offender's register, and if he's not then if he is arrested for another sexual offense later he could possibly match aimee's evidence. that's why they kept her jeans. idk how it works in the US but in the UK there could be possible prosecution outcomes, especially if he's already a known sex offender. i dont think its a fantasy to think the police would do something. a teacher in my school made inappropriate sexual comments to girls and he was put on a sex offenders register for 2 years and was banned from teaching again. there was no touching or assaults but it was taken seriously as a sexual harassment case, also none of these girls were privileged or rich like aimee- it was a poor area and well known shit school lol. again idk if thats a difference between UK and US police. also as the other commenter said in lots of situations like this people freeze and basically internally panic. i think that's very common for young women when harassed by an older man. i've not had an experience exactly like aimee's but when i was younger and older men would speak to me i would freeze out of fear of escalating the situation or appearing 'rude'.

what happened to aimee is sexual assault. i think different forms of sexual assault can have the same or similar negative consequences for the victims. things like this are very traumatizing. for every person, whether they are sexual and/or sexually active or not. and also - people can react very differently to it. some people fight, others freeze. and her not being able to go on the bus is a realistic trauma response in my opinion. what happened to aimee hasn't happened to me, but last year i was on the train and a man was inappropriately touching my breast the whole train ride and i completely froze. i was stuck between him and the window, i could barely move and i just didn't know what to do. things like that do have an impact, and sometimes when i'm on the train i'm afraid someone is gonna sit really close to me and do that again. it's just an uncomfortable thing honestly.
