Happy to release this updated version of the Ruins of Thundertree, which bring it more in line with the rest of the maps from Lost Mine of Phandelver, as well as with the new maps currently being developed for Shattered Obelisk.

There will be a new version of Phandalin released later this month, which will be larger and much higher detail than the previous, as well as with eventual variants for a corrupted state, as well as other versions for people choosing to base their campaigns in the town.

If you aren't running LMoP, this would be a great ruined village for your party to discover and explore, with lots of homes to check, cover, difficult terrain and elevation changes.

I hope you enjoy it!

Perfect timing on this! My players are about to enter an ancient abandoned city (Karse in the High Forest) and this is perfect to adapt for that use. Thanks so much! I love your maps.

I used your original Thundertree map years ago, and this is a great, drop-in ready update for the next time I run LMoP. It's amazing how some brighter color assets and enhanced depth of shadow adds. The trees, terrain, and updated assets really make the map pop, but without losing that gloom / ruined feel. That is always the danger of creating vivid maps for scenarios like this. The tree shadows are a HUGE boon, probably the single biggest value add. Which leads to a request: are we going to see these same improvements added to an updated version of Restored Thundertree? I know it already has some of these improvementsas it is much newer, but it doesn't have all of them. Some background... In my game, the 1-year in-game anniversary of the party cleaning out Thundertree is coming up (out of game, it was nearly 3 years ago). This, alongside many other services to Neverwinter, is resulting in them being made Hero's of Neverwinter in some future session. Though this ceremony is only 12 days away in game, out of game it'll take 2-4 months for us to get there lol. Even though we play 4.5 hours weekly, to give you an idea, the last 9 hours of play time covered 12 hours of in-game time. They are...thorough...and love to RP. :-) The reason I mention all of this is the party is going to be "given" Thundertree (they are also getting Cragmaw's Castle and other locations) to develop. Each of the 6 players (yeah it's a large group, which is why we are move so slowly) is getting a property for them to develop. When that time arrives, which again will be months away IRL (and even months after that by the time it's fully restored), having an updated Restored Thundertree battlemap would be fantastic. From a quick comparison, it seems to be in a bit of a mid-state between the two Thundertree versions: better quality than the original to be sure, but also lacking some of the features of the new one. Many of the new assets are in use, but some other very nice enhancements, such as tree shadows, are missing. The terrain shadows also don't give the same depth of feel that the new version does along the roadsides, and the roads themselves are definitely a bit duller. Since they seem to be identical map layouts, I'm guessing that a bit of layer trickery by using the background and vegetation layers from the latest Thundertree map, and combining them with the structure and interior layers of the Restored Thundertre map, you could fairly easily create an Updated Restored Thundertree? If possible, and not too much effort, that would be fantastic. Like I said; no rush. It'll be months before I would use either the current or a new version. :-)
