Crisp night air whipped through April's fur as she leapt down from the fire escape to the alley below.  The fall, which she flung herself into so wholeheartedly didn't terrify her as it would have a mere few hours ago.  For this brief moment, between the window and the ground, she was totally free.  She was in control.

She closed her eyes and let the scents of the City fill her as she continued to fall.  Sewage, street food, corruption.  Neon glamour barely disguised the rat infested rot that had taken hold of the City she used to think of as home.  Now all she wanted to do was run.
