The Lottery: A Hucow Story (Patreon)

The world ended, but humans kept going. The Arcanites control technology and government.  They instituted the Lottery to maintain genetic diversity by taking random men and women from the population and giving them a breeder serum. They commission the Matrons to raise the children. The Arcanites are benevolent and seek only to keep humanity alive on a poisoned earth.

Mila knows this, but still, as the Lottery looms once again and threatens to take away her loved ones, she begins to question why.

Hi all!  This story is a hairy egg.  What is a hairy egg, I hear you ask.  "Hairy Egg" was what an old teacher of mine would say when you did the job, but something went wrong along the way.  That's what happened here.  I've been traveling for a project lately and somehow the existence of a new Hunger Games movie seeped into my brain through the social ether.  That inspired this 3/4ths crazy high concept and 1/4th spice story that.

I have it grouped with the Hucow Stories series at the moment, but it may go into the "hairy egg" file alongside Tenevolyes. Not that I think it's bad per se, but it's a whole lot of concept for not enough payoff.  The wrinkle that happens in the story interested me, so I had to finish it out.
