There's a few things about this episode I love. First thought is your comment about "something familiar," friend of mine and I reference "Gorn dogs" for this concept. He was at a Chinese restaurants in a rural MidWest town that had corn dogs for kids with a typo on the menu, labeled as gorn dogs. One thing I love is the difference is how both Rarity and Pinkie are trying to accomplish the same thing, but very different methods. Rarity, being a salespony focuses on traditional sales - You have to give the customer what they want (Which when pure fails because there's no reason to go there) Pinkie is purely focused on being yourself (which fails because too exotic doesn't work. Virtually no foreign restaurant has the actual food eaten in the original region, it's ALWAYS localized to some degree). There's problems with both of these approaches and a good and successful business is going to have to fall somewhere in between. Also as a complete aside, this episode shows us the background pony Fresh Coat, one of the trio of painters that help fix up the shop who's absolutely adorable. She's the 3rd one walking out of the building at 11:30. A few plushes were made from her that are great and she's gotten a fair bit of fan art.

The implication of all the friendship problems they *didn't* solve, when the map was broken.. Yeah, let's not dwell too much on that thought.. Anyways, both Pinkie and Rarity were right, and also both wrong. They were focused on trying to impress the critics, rather than the actual customers. Same can be said for all the restaurant owners. But this is less a lesson for restaurant owners and their ilk, and more for customers. Support what *you* want, buy into what you want to buy into. Be like Pinkie at the beginning, not Rarity, follow your nose, not the reviews when it comes to works of art As an aside, seeing this reaction caught me up in a whole lot of deja vu. A month or two ago, I watched this with another youtuber, TheEternalSamurai in his discord server Cool guy, check him out Anyways, we watched this episode and talked about it in vc
