Ah, this one pissed a lot of bronies off when it released You see, Rainbow Dash becoming a wonderbolt had been being built up for years. She was introduced in episode one as the pony who wanted to be a wonderbolt, and she's made progress towards that goal throughout all the seasons. Heck, the CMC got their moment sooner than she did And then Hasbro drops it without preamble before the credits even roll randomly in the 7th episode of season 6 Oh also, the Wonderbolts are based on the Blue Angels Anywho Nicknames in the workforce I have a nickname from my time as an apprentice, Twoshoes. I walked in one day with my steel toe boot on one foot, and my slip on shoe on the other They still call me that lol But it didn't get to me, and still doesn't Cause like Who cares? Well, actually they do, they care about me enough to not just forget that ever happened, but made it a thing so I was part of the group. Cause that's the thing about nicknames that commemorate an embarrassing moment, they aren't meant to belittle, they're pretty much a rite of passage Also I've always been very team oriented. Kinda like Flutters, I don't like the spotlight, I'd rather be one person of a group, who helped that team win, or do well anyway. Worked great when I was on a robotics team in high school (we won one competition, and did well in all the others, made it to worlds competition our senior year, and qualified all previous years. Not bad for a team who was just having fun, and not actually trying for the win if I do say so myself lol) And it works great with what I do now, cause obviously, unless you're the CEO or running your own business, and most often even then, you're part of a team Team mentality for the win To answer the question of "have you ever experienced a situation where your confidence wavered when surrounded by highly skilled individuals?" Of course, same job as the one that got me my nickname. I've always been pretty good at what I do, ever since I started trying (aerospace/prototype machinist btw) But there's a difference between a kid, cause that's what I really am, who has natural talent and drive for something, and people who've been doing that job for upwards of 50 years, and have been in that specific shop for anywhere from 5-20 years So once I got past the "oh dang, I actually got the job" and "lemme just show off what I know rq" like was experienced for Rainbow Dash, I quickly woke up to the reality of "Oooooh, yeah I have natural talent, but these guys are a lot faster and skilled than I am, how will I keep up" Keeping up isn't the point though, I'm a very green machinist, they don't expect be to be half as fast as them, create the prettiest parts, and they do expect be to scrap things fairly often as I learn. All they want from me is to learn enough before the next guy retires that the shop can keep momentum when they do, and then obviously keep learning, cause I really am the start of the next generation in that shop

I love this episode! It's really great! They've built to this for so long! And to me, it was worth the wait! If not for anything but AJ and RD's voice actress having to do RD's voice impersonating AJ! That was gold! Ashleigh is really talented. It still sounded like RD! Besides that, I really like that RD's Wonderbolt nickname is Rainbow Crash and she finally got past that nickname. I can see why some bronies thought it didn't do it justice, but I don't see it that way. When "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" came out, a lot of bronies called it rushed! I don't see it. It wasn't finale or premier material. And they couldn't make a 2 parter mid season. That's un-heard of. Same thing goes here. They didn't wanna spend too much time giving a backstory to a pony who retired so RD could become a Wonderbolt. They wanted to show what it's like for her in her first show as a Wonderbolt. I really like this episode!

OMG! You were totally on the money when you said that RD's self worth is based in how amazing she was compared to everypony else. I never looked at it that way before!
