Now that it's not a spoiler, leading up to this episode we actually see Starlight in the background a few times spying on the party. You see her hair over a menu when everybody's in the cafe in the episode where Twilight is reuniting with her old Canterlot friends and meets Moon Dancer, and in What about Discord there's a moment where you see her hair sticking out of bushes with some binoculars poking out watching the party. And I do like what you pointed out about how she really is trying to make the world a better place. She's not doing it for power or just to be evil, it's for a good purpose. It just can't work. As for the army, it shows up in a few other places but one of Sombra's powers is mind control magic.

So many things to say. First, it woulda been hella funny if this entire finale, both episodes, was just us watching Twilight run through her speech over and over again Secondly, Starlight stalking Twilight was actually shown in the background all through season 5. Don't blame you for not noticing, cause I sure didn't until it was explicitly shown to me Thirdly, Starlight chilling on Fluttershy's chair, the Element of Kindness, probably has some deeper meaning Fourtly.. quarterly.. idc, seeing the mane 6 *not* get their cutiemarks hurts me on a very deep level. Of course, interestingly, it's shown that they got them anyhow, in some timelines. But seeing those girls not doing what makes them happy, what they were meant to do.. There are no words Fifthly... ok this is getting absurd From the Sombraline (Sombra timeline) we see a look into the background character Golden Harvest. Or as she's known by the fandom, Carrot Top Her farmhouse, which is right next to the Apple's, was converted to part of the applesauce factory, which completely screwed her talent for growing carrots. Also, this is the first proper evidence that the Apples actually own her farmhouse, which adds a whole new concerning note to Super Speedy Cider Squeezy, where her livelihood was also threatened by that competition

Starlight is chilling on Fluttershy's chair because her cutie mark is three butterflies. The "butterfly effect" is a time travel trope in which making a small change in the past causes massive changes to the future. It comes originally from the Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder" from 1952.
