Jasper and Amethyst are narrative foils. Jasper is everything Homeworld wants Gems to be: perfect and perfectly in their place. Jasper was made to be a soldier and she does it very well. She's flawless and has probably never been treated as anything less. Amethyst, had she been around when the Rebellion was in full force, probably would have been considered a failure from the start. Too small, in the ground too long, not strong enough. She's one of the Gems that may have joined the Rebellion of her own accord, because it would've been clear from the beginning that she didn't fit. Jasper has always fit, and has always been the best of the best. Instead, Amethyst was left behind and never knew what Homeworld demanded she be. Her fixation on Jasper is because if she can defeat Jasper, she can prove that Homeworld's expectations truly don't matter. She is not wrong and Rose was right--Amethyst is perfect just the way she is. And you're right, Jasper is the biggest threat right now. She is the embodiment of Homeworld on Earth.
