Hooman Reacts to Steven Universe ( Season 2 Episode 13 ) Onion Friend

There were many touching moments in this episode but one that really stuck out was when Steven decided to continue to play with onion even though he finds him absolutely weird and creepy. My own thoughts on onion was he is a weirdo sociopath, not really a sociopath but he's just destructive and you only seem to care about himself although, there was a moment right at the end where he gave Stephen any toy that he wanted which I thought was great.

Furthermore we get an inkling of amethyst dealing with her own self-loathing. I will definitely be looking to see how she grows and hopefully has a better self image of herself and her place amongst the crystal gems in the world she inhabits

Verdigree

BTW, something you probably won't catch the first time watching, we saw Vidalia with Marty, Greg's old manager in the flashback episode, and Amethyst asked about "Old Farty Marty" this episode

I feel you about putting out positive vibes with your friends. I love to build my friends up, not tear them down, even playfully.

I love the fact that Steven is willing to put up with Onion's weirdness to let Amethyst have time to talk to Vidalia.

My long-time friend in the UK (where the term is "taking the piss" instead of "busting each other's chops") once told me that he found the way I show affection to be incredibly foreign. I don't think I've ever heard him and his UK best friends pay one another a genuine compliment - whereas I regularly and instinctively tell him and my other friends "I love you" (among other true compliments) openly. I say I love you to my friends (and family) so much that my brain is sort of programmed to always go back to that thought whenever I'm not actively thinking something else. It's fascinating to me, it really gets me wondering about nature vs nurture - is it a cultural difference? Is there something about the UK that inspires folks to be more reserved about affection, something we don't have in the states? Or is it baked into our genes?

Sharing Heart

Of course Onion has a heart! I just don't want to know where he found it...

I think with some groups of people, the whole "busting chops" or friendly insults can be really powerful for bonding within that group. But it's just so easy to accidentally go too far, or be misunderstood. And worse, some people just use it as cover to be actually mean. So I try not to judge the people who enjoy that, but I prefer positivity too.
