LMAO THANKS DAVID!!! LOVE U

Roman was Neo's only family. Yeah, he was a dick, probably abusive, but he's the only one that ever looked out for her, at least, that's the vibe I get. When abandonment is all you've ever known, even a terrible situation, like working for Roman, seems like the best thing in the world. For the question about Yang, she doesn't want or need protection. Blake offering it to her made her feel weak and like she isn't good enough.

Anonymous

Yang doesn't want to be protected, she thinks that Blake saying she'll protect her means that Blake thinks she's weak, and not strong enough to do things on her own. Yang is fiercely independent and doesn't like relying on others.

Anonymous

Regarding Blake and Yang's interaction - sometimes you're not looking for protection or help. Yang doesn't want Blake to fight her fight for her. Blake is doing too much for Yang, treating her like she's fragile because of what has happened to them, but Yang doesn't need that type of help, she's still more than capable. Similar to the situation in the train prior to the crash, Yang was getting her bag down from a shelf, and Blake stepped in, said "Let me get that for you." and did it for Yang, partially because she obviously feels horrible for what happened at Beacon and also partially because she personally feels Yang needs help. In some cases you can appreciate the help, because it might be necessary, but by no means does that mean you're incapable of doing everything - in this case, Yang protecting herself. Yang doesn't want to be babied, but Blake is trying to do everything for her.

I love the horror-esque vibe of these episodes on the farm. It's so different from the rest of the series! As for Yang, I think she took Blake's comment as Blake saying Yang needed protecting. I think Yang has been trying to tell herself that she's the same person she was before Adam, and Blake's comment makes Yang feel like she's less than she was. I don't think Yang can handle feeling that vulnerable, so she pulls away. I hope that makes sense.

Yeah, I kinda get where Yang is comming from. "I'll protect you. " Sure that sentence is innocent and all but I have this stong desire to do everything myself, fight my wn battles and then a "I'll proctect you" can sound like a like she is saying she can't protect herself, that she is weak. Nobody likes feeling weak or in need of protection. And when a situation like that appears that stong need to do everything by yourself screams "I don't need protection." and that can make you pull away from a helping hand, especially after what Yang's been though. She might think Blake she needs protection because of her arm, beacause of her diability and that is something that is out of Yangs control which can aloso give her that sence that she is weak when she is infact not. There is nothing wrong with protecting each other but somtimes accepting that protection and help can be hard especially when you want to do everything yourself.

Fighting: Depends on the situation. I could see why Crow was like, "let us all chill and sip the calming tea." He doesn't want to fight Lionhart and his sister, with his 2 neices, one of which is his sisters daughter. It really brings in the Thanksgiving day family fight vibe. Drunk uncle and all... only you know guns and magic stuffs. In real life, most of the time I'll Wait for you to make the first move, not gonna lie though, if you ever get me seeing red angry, you're gonna be flying through the air before you Blink. Well at least that was me before I looked like granny with a cane.

Yang is dealing with the ramifications of being "disabled". She doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for her because her arm was chopped off, but she is also mad that Blake left when her arm was chopped off. Even though Blake leaving kept Adam focused on Blake instead of killing her friends which is what his initial plan was... What Yang is feeling is very real and happens in real life. Dealing with one's "new" body and how others respond to you is very difficult. When i lost my right side because of paralysis I eventually just had to look at my friends and say "this is what I can and can't do. This is what I need from you if your ever want to be friends with me outside of my house. I'm gonna need you to help with this, but not that. Etc." Yang doesn't want to have the conversastion because it's hard. But she needs to because Blake has no idea what Yang can and can't do. Or what she needs.

SonicKing2004

So Blake meant well. When she says "I'll protect you" she probably meant it like, "Nobody's gonna hurt you like this again because I'm gonna stay by your side this time, and if you do get hurt I'll be there to help you recover. I won't run away again." However, Yang is used to being the strong one, always rushing forward into battle gun-gauntlets a-blazin'. Even though her goal in becoming a huntress was to go on adventures there was definitely a part of her that's been compelled to use her strength to protect those that she cares about. The Fall of Beacon was the first time that her strength just wasn't enough, as when Blake was in trouble Yang was unable to lay even a single hand on Adam before she was soundly defeated. She had worked hard to regain a portion of the confidence she had prior to that day, to build up the courage to face the possibility that she and Adam might cross paths again out here, and to have Blake inadvertently suggest that she might me weak enough to need her protection is the last thing that she needs right now. In addition Yang is probably still feeling the sting from Blake leaving her after Beacon's fall. As had been made clear in the last couple of seasons, Blake had put the distance between them in order to not encourage Adam to hurt her by attacking her friends (Yang's missing arm was the result of his doing exactly that). Obviously Yang didn't know about this back then ( I don't know if she told her in the off-screen time since last season's end) but even if she did she wouldn't likely have accepted that reasoning for the reasons detailed in the previous paragraph. Anyways Yang already had abandonment issues with her mother leaving the family (i.e. read, leaving her). To have Blake, someone she had been growing close to after breaking through the walls Blake had erected around herself, "leave" her at such a vulnerable moment had hurt her considerably and was likely part of the reason it took her so long to recover enough to accept the prosthetic arm. Even now she is likely questioning the reason Blake has returned (likely partly due to Raven instilling some paranoia into Yang prior to their last parting) and Blake's words carry an undertone that guilt and/or pity might have been a motivating factor, which is the last thing that someone as strong-willed as Yang want anyone to be feeling for her. Basically Blake and Yang have some bumps to smooth out in their relationship.

Unforgivable!

Everyone else has already explained the Yang scene well enough in the replies. All I’ll add is “keep watching” :3

I think Yangs comments to Blake are pretty well done, and I think really in character for her. I became physically disabled at an age not much older than Yang, and suddenly everyone wanted to do everything for me, which is sometimes fine, but sometimes it means they assume you're not capable. Yang is an experienced trainee huntsman, she's more than capable of being Blake's equal, but instead Blake sees her as someone needing protecting instead of an equal partner, just because of Yang's disability. This was also shown in an earlier episode when Blake went to get Yangs bag down for her without even asking, despite Yang being more than capable.

David about being in a fight.... you want to get the first hit in ideally. And even better you want the first hit to be debilitating. You never know what the enemy is capable of and if you wait to find out.... it might be the last thing you learn.

I'd love to talk about my girls but the Blake and Yang talk looks to have been pretty extensively covered. So on a less commented upon note: put simply Roman took Neo in which made her loyal and then treated her well which led to her really seeing him as her best, her only, friend.

Bubblegum402

God it being so long since neo came back in the show waiting weekly and months for episodes and seeing her again was so refreshing I remember so many people screaming so happily she was back XDD

Bubblegum402

There also seems to be some sort of connection between neo and Roman we never got to fully see but it was clear they cared for eachother, looking back when neo got separated in the airship because of Ruby opening her umbrella roman shouted out to her and he sounded concerned, and then there’s this episode which shows that neo woukd try to fight cinder and possibly defeat her for his sake and revenge as her song playing in the background suggests.

Cmdrwilkens

Just following up on the Neo/Roman thing but the lyrics to "One Thing" although non-diagetic do at least provide a pretty solid character background for why Neo was so devastated by Roman dying.

Jason S

Roman was the only family Neo had, at all. It is a bit callous to be asking why she is angry about his death. Blake's gesture towards Yang was a sincere one, but it takes away from Yang's autonomy. Yang doesn't want to be a damsel in distress, having someone else save or protect her. She wants to face her issues herself with Blake and her friends to support her. Blake was inadvertantly taking that from her.

As far as starting a fight goes, I've trained in martial arts for a couple of decades now and it really depends on the situation. Do you want to get the first hit? Absolutely always, but you may not always want to swing first. I specialize in counter punching/hits so waiting for the other person to swing first actually benefits me more

Zen Reacts

He probably wasnt even abusive towards her, you saw how he reacted when she got pulled off the airship

The others above have already said everything we need to know about Neo / Roman or Yang / Blake. So I just want to reiterate how the scene of Weiss with her blanket looking at Ruby, just asks for a big hug. I also like Weiss's reaction when Ruby brings up Qrow's problem with alcoholism, her mother also having problems like this, Weiss all understand right away what Ruby means. And just to finish, volume 4 ended with a creature of nightmares (the half horse half man grim), Leo's death by the tentacle grimm species was also worthy of a horror movie, it continues here and with episode 6, you will have more in the next volume, CRWBY apparently likes horror movies ^^.

About Yang... That's actually something I know from personal experience. When your entire confidence and self esteem come from your own strength, it makes you very self reliant. That can be good, until... Well, until this turns out to be an illusion. When you find out you're actually powerless. When that happens, you start feeling useless - and at this point, people offering you to depend on them only worsens the feeling. Blake was super sweet in that scene, but for Yang, "I will protect you" automatically comes with "because you need to hide behind someone else, you weak loser." It doesn't make sense and it's unfair toward Blake, but do remember that overcoming Trauma is a long journey and Yang is still dealing with A LOT.

Neo is easily one of the strongest fighters in the series and one of the many reasons I love her, along with how much personality she has for a character that cannot speak. It has been confirmed through Q&A sessions with the writers that Neo did have feelings for Roman, although I don't think the clip has been posted publicly at all. Also. Horror movie is about right for this part of Volume 6!

Anonymous

I'm pretty sure others have pointed out, but part of Yang's upset is a mix of her still being bitter about the abandonment, but also not wanting to feel like she can't protect herself. A lot of disabled people (myself included) don't like it when people treat us like we can't do things on our own, like asking us if we need help when we're not struggling. Also - keep an eye on how everyone is acting. Kinda strange, huh?

I don't fully remember, but isn't there a theory that Roman was from the Brunswick family?
