WIP: IMPS sketches (Patreon)

im also planning on some light comics, some little full pieces, but nothing tooo heavy on me :)

id love to show the village residents talk about fish boy imp, want to explore the way marriages are assigned and who lives where. i have the idea that fish boy lives a bit far from the city area, and there's a local chief in his village.  he's very resourceful and proud which makes him both attractive and embarrassing. he does not practice modesty towards his peers and is a very affectionate lad. though he has the mind and body of a warrior, with all the skills to match. this makes him attractive enough to offset the immodesty. after all, being capable is very desired. his father is close to many of the elders and chief, due to a disease that broke out when fish boy was born. his father's mates all perished from the disease, and his son was able to miraculously survive. he (father) played an integral part in organizing the remaining members of the village and finding the treatment and source of the illness.  its likely due to contaminated water either from rain or other sources. he had the biggest loss from all the villagers, losing 3 mates in one period. others have lost a child or a mate, or an elder, but not everybody. 

anyways, that's one story, its another that fish boy and the art tatoo imp are in different classes, one wealthier and higher than the other. the debate on if fish will join their clan or art will join fish boy clan.  its likely that art will join fishboy, because he wants to separate from his clan into a new lineage. there are many children in arts family, but not in fishboy, who is the only son. of course that doesn't mean they will be like separated from their original families or anything, just officially they are in different places and lineages. ill still have to think about it. 

the home of fishboy is not small, as it was built with the intention of being a long intergenerational household. it is just far from the city.  the village is also lacking members due to the past illness, so their needs to be some new folks coming in to flesh it out. 

art and his family, how they see fishboy and his father. fishboy dad has a facial tattoo, reflective of his contribution but also his devastating loss. facial tattoos are rare and hard to get, must do something worthy of it. having children, chieftan, a decades long successful hunter, any big contribution to a village.  you can earn with time, but having it younger means that you've done something bigger, or something big has happened. art's dad have facial tattoos, due to their prestigious role as a master tattoist. but the other fathers do not.  so art's fathers seeing that this quiet villager that is neither chief, nor old, nor a master of some craft, has one, is a very peculiar thing. 

but of course, that must mean he did something big. by such example, fishboy is looking much more acceptable as a courtier to their son (art).

a few other stories involve human, wars, and the hunt for imps horns.  aswell as imps that have never met their kin, who have been taken away from their village and live in an oprhanage with many others in the same situation. though he was the only imp there. 

another involve the next mates for fishboy and art, being a sickly imp who is good at  weaving and sewing even though it takes him a while, and the other being a crafty coward-like imp who likes the weaker imp. crafty is very smart and is great at making plans and contracts, while the other is especially good at weaving and sowing. despite being sickly, his artisanal goods are beautiful. and imps love art. 

weaker imp has a crush on the fishboy, living not too far from him, infact their villages are almost next to each other, where they are further in the tropics. crafty imp is in the same village, but often goes to the city for his excellent bartering skills. he is in the midst of becoming a merchant for the villagers.  (just gotta solidify his network relations) he is known as the village's coward, who got his tattos painfree. 

he thinks its dumb to make imps go through more pain when they went through the hard journey of earning the tattoos in the first place. thats why he didnt care when others called him weak. at the end of the day, he will do what he needs to do, and knows that in his heart. the weak imp did them traditionally, but his health was not good, so it took longer to have  it done. he could not recover in time and missed most of the coming of age celebration that year, the year fishboy got his. he also heard of the illness and their village was affected, though much lesser due to fishboy village warning them. to say they owe them is an understatement. 

so these two village relations are at their best. 

art lives further to the city, in an area given to them for their necessary work as tattooists. they are near the sacred house, where tatttoos are done and special celebrations are held.  im thinking that he is semi far from fish village. art family has a moderately large home, with all the elders, children, and parents live together. but no tangentially related villagers. its like gated.  the homes outside are also moderately wealthy, being a 'village' of higher class members. but art often travels lower and visits fishboy and the other villages. even going to the city to personally barter. but he does have an attendant at times. 

much more to think about. where they all are makes my head explode. agh so many places, and so much to think about

these are in different canvases, as i'm simultaneously working  on them.

it will take some time to get these pieces done while lining my comics.
