Syringe in One Hand, Gun in the Other

Chapter 16

-VB-

Alan Marris

Our operation in the post-apocalypse/cyberpunk world of 2070 mainly consisted of mining operations in places that no one cared about … until we did. When we developed something, people got interested and wanted to take it from us. When we set up a logging camp, they sent their soldiers to kill us and did kill many of us; we just happened to respawn as they tried to go through our stuff and killed them.

Hell, we even moved many of our operations from NUSA to Canada. We still got harassed.

And in each case, when we dug deep enough, only a few who were responsible for our problems: the megacorporations.

Militech hounded us whenever we set up mining camps outside of Californias. Arasaka shot at us whenever we were in Californias. And when it wasn’t one of those two, it was some other megacorporation who wanted a crack at us!

It was … infuriating.

It was part of the reason why we infiltrated Night City, but now that we found someone in it that we didn’t want to harm, well, our priority changed to get Gloria and her kid out first.

“You want to … move out of Night City?” Gloria asked me with wide eyes.

We nodded. “Somewhere safer. I hear that Seattle is a better place to live than Night City. Better life in general.”

She looked away, unsure and taken aback by our suggestion.

We were inside her apartment this time, and this talk had come about after another passionate coupling in her bed. We wouldn’t have if the little tyke was still here but he was outside with his friends.

“I … it’s all I’ve known.”

Gloria was born and raised in Night City. She was here since her childhood to see the world bend around Night City’s fate. To not be here was … to not exist, in a way. The average person’s life here in Night City was worth more than any other average life in any other place. This was what she and everyone thought. This was where everything happened.

“I know. So let’s go and make our future somewhere better. Somewhere away from this perpetually decaying world.”

She looked up at me, covering herself with her bedsheet. Being an EMT in Night City required one to be fit, and she was … with a pair of tits each just too big for my hands to grasp fully and an ass to match them. She looked beautiful and sexy sitting on the bed with the sunlight barely illuminating her.

Our relationship with Lisa was stilted and odd from how negatively it began but we still cared for each other.

This here? It was genuine. We loved her, and though she did not know all of us, we liked to think that she loved us, too.

Our fledgling love might get hurt if she refused but we wouldn’t force her to do anything. No, we would have to bend our operations instead. We didn’t need to mine on this world. We could move those elsewhere, even if we invested … quite a lot already.

“Let me take a shower first. I need time to think. Come back to me tomorrow?”

“Of course,” we smiled.

Lisa Wilbourn

For the first time in a long time, she felt jealous.

Looking at Alan with his lovestruck look irritated her, but each time she saw it, she ignored it.

She didn’t want to cause problems. Not for her, Taylor, or Alan. She was just upset that things weren’t working out as she wanted.

It didn’t matter in the end, though. She was his first, and would remain his first as long as she didn’t mess it up.

… but it still stung. She’d grown to enjoy being with Alan, in bed and elsewhere. He made her feel wanted in a good way. She wasn’t a tool he wanted but a girl he came to like. She worked with him, not for him.

… so it stung even more that she didn’t have what a has-been MILF had with Alan, even if it was with clones of his that didn’t have direct contact with her. Because that love still bled through that hive mind of his.

She knew she wasn’t lacking. Even though seduction wasn’t her best suit, she could get a rise of him and did it before to get him to ride her all night long.

But emotions weren’t rational and it still stung.

“Alan.”

It was her Alan, the one who always slept with her and no one else. He was … yes, he was a clone and just a part of Alan but it always felt special to just have him be with her. She never needed to say or think about it before but it really was the case.

Why did she always have her eureka moment so late?

“What is it, Lisa?” he asked her.

This month was No Nut November, which just happened to coincide with her self-esteem issues and jealousy! This meant he wasn’t having sex with her, and it’s already been a week!

She opened her mouth and almost choked on her own tongue as the words failed to leave her lips.

“... Yes? Something bothering you?”

Yes, there were many things bothering her!

He didn’t look like he understood but shrugged, scooped her up into a hug, and got them both to lay down in bed.

She fumed at herself and him before she just gave up and hugged him, too.

This was nice.

… She was still jealous, though.
