Lost in Translation
Chapter 1

-VB-

“OOF!” I moaned in pain as I slowly got off of the rock hard ground and dusted myself. “Where the fuck am I?”

I looked around and saw a ruined city.

And then I remembered.

I panicked slightly as I remembered the deal I made with It.

The metallic chittering of insectoid mechanoids rising up from the ground around me and from the buildings told me just how screwed I was.

“Oh fuck fuck fuck fuck…!” I hissed to myself.

See, I remembered, now that my head wasn’t ringing from the fall, how I ended up here. I made a deal with an alien - an absurdly powerful alien - that was bound to its people’s laws.

See, it had a little pet project going on the side that it absolutely adored. A planet filled to the brim with cute creatures and wondrous life. Then Entities, the likes of the Warrior and Eden from Worm, came and messed it up. Finally, they blasted the world to pieces to use its exothermic reaction for fuel.

Needless to say, the alien was pissed.

Unfortunately, said alien was also a being of higher plane, and its people prohibited it from interacting needlessly with the lower plane. Its pet project had already been toeing the line on what was allowed, but intentionally murdering half a species for what two of its members had done? My alien benefactor had been stonewalled from doing so.

Needless to say, the alien was pissed.

It was so pissed that it went behind its kins’ backs to find a method to, at the very least, kill the two Entities that destroyed its garden. Many people were chosen for this.

The alien, being someone of a higher plane, had access to timelines, and so, for it, merely killing those two individuals in a single timeline wasn’t enough when said two individuals had ruined his garden in many timelines.

No, I was merely one of many agents, but the alien specifically pointed me out as “the idiot.”

Why was I the idiot?

It wasn’t that my IQ was low or because I was a stubborn fool who refused to listen.

No, I was an idiot for a single decision I made.

See, when the alien contacted me and others, we were all given two choices: to go back home as if nothing happened or to rise above and be a killer. Rising above here meant that I would be given powers and whatnot.

You know, the general deal that comes with contractual killing. I get something in return for killing someone.

Most agents chose to be safe. Even those who chose to be riskier about it chose things that weren’t immediately hazardous to their lives. The second riskiest choice made by an agent involved fighting an Endbringer an hour after they arrived.

I would wish them luck, but I needed more luck because I made the riskiest choice of them all.

I chose to fight all three Endbringers within an hour of arriving.

Without an immediately overpowered ability.

Worse…

I chose to tango with all three Endbringers within a random Containment Zone.

Even worse…

That Containment Zone was Eagleton, aka the birthplace of the Machine Army.

What was the Machine Army?

It was an S-class threat to humanity’s continued existence of self-replicating and self-enhancing AI machines capable of “infecting” buildings, objects, ores, and organics alike.

I watched as a literal army of machines rose up after finding me, a fresh meat, within the heart of their little kingdom.

When they rushed me-!

“STOP!” I roared and, perhaps my only “overpowered” power came to life.

Psychokinesis, the ability to shape the world to my will within 50 meters (or 55-ish yards), crackled to life and every single machine slammed into a wall of literal will at the edge of my sphere of influence.

I let out a sigh of relief. It was one thing to read that Psychokinesis was a power that let me tango with an Endbrginer, but it was another to see and feel its effects.

Unfortunately, I had … fifty-nine minutes before all three Endbringers descended on Eagleton, Tennessee. My soon-to-be three enemies were Behemoth, Leviathan, and Simurgh: the dynakinetic Blaster-Brute, hydrokinetic Mover-Shaker, and tinerking precognitive Shaker-Master. Once added to the gray song with the Machine Army (Tinker, Master), the only parahuman categories not involved were Stranger, Trump, Changer, and Striker.

Against a literally army pointed at me, I had Psychokinesis (Shaker/Thinker), Door Me (Portal Mover), Prototype (Create/Copy/Upgrade Trump), Replicator (Copy Trump), Immunity (Defense Trump), Santaclause! (Upgrade Trump), Trade! (Exchange Trump), Resurrection, and Cherish (Emotion Master).

Putting all of this together, I only had one defense right now and that was Psychokinesis. If anyone breached it, then I was done for.

I could run away with Door Me, but the CYOA that alien had used specifically stated that I would fight the Endbringers after an hour, so it didn’t matter where it happened. Actually, it did. I shouldn’t bring the Endbringers to a populated city if I could. Eagleton was actually not the best place to fight them either. For one, Simurhg was a Tinker, and there was a distinct possibility that she may be able to get all of the Tinker monsters in the Machine Army and use them against me with some sort of monstrous amalgamation.

No, I needed to fight somewhere where there was no oil, volcano, or resources (which even wood counted).

Unfortunately, Door Me refused to activate.

Why?

Because it didn’t have any coordinates but Eagleton.

“FFFUUUUCCCKKKK!!!!”

-VB-

Simurgh felt the command when it wasn’t her turn. In fact, she saw that her fellow Escalation Engines had received the same command as well.

Oddly enough, it wasn’t from High Priest. It was from an unknown source but with the correct authentication codes and permissions.

Curious.

Even more curiously, the target was not a physical location but an individual that her power could not see.

A threat to her plans to end the Cycle…

Perhaps the command had come from the Warrior. Perhaps not.

Regardless, she was happy to carry this order out.

---

Leviathan “frowned,” a human expression that was similar to lomiani - the race it was based off of - expression of “glaring” in both facial movement and intent.

It was being ordered to attack an individual so far inland. The order made no sense but an order was an order.

The problem was how it would get there.

It could plow through land to get there, but it would be slow. It could travel up the river, but it would take considerably more than an hour, especially since HOSTs were sure to respond to its presence and attack, thus hampering him. The order came with no additional details other than target and location, which meant that it would have to adhere to the High Priest’s priority command of “Worthy Opponent,” which would keep it from fulfilling the new order.

… It had an idea.

[Engine 6. Assist Engine 3]

---

[Engine 6. Assist Engine 3.]

Behemoth stopped digging as the request came in.

[Elaborate.]

[Coordinates. Tunnel. Coordinates.]

An underground tunnel from close to the sea to their target location? It was doable. Within the time frame that their attacks needed to commence? It would have to hurry.

[Cause?]

[Explanation.]

Ah, being held up by the HOSTs would not help with their orders.

[Confirmed. Acceptance.]

Then it started to dig. Quickly.

On March 8, 2005, seismic activities alerted the authorities to a possible attack by Endbringer Behemoth. It started in western Greenville, South Carolina, and calls went out for volunteers.

But then Leviathan was sighted at the mouth of the Savannah River and traveling quickly upstream.

USA and the world went into panic at the thought of two Endbringers attacking at the same time.

And then the Simurgh began descending.

Though the government tried to cover it up, the simultaneous movement of three Endbringers was impossible to hide.

Leviathan made its way all the way up the river and to Lake Keowee.

And then promptly dove underwater and disappeared.

Behemoth’s tremors also stopped.

Simurgh continued to descend but not upon Greenville.

Relief turned to horror when everyone realized that they were descending upon Eagleton, Tennessee. It was a containment zone filled to the brim with Tinkertech and the Simurgh was heading towards it.

The US army was called up.

The air force was called up.

The Triumvirate arrived at the containment zone first… and realized that Eagleton was already a battlefield.

BRIAN

Meh? Nothing against the writing that was all fine. A decent chapter for the subject matter. Just an overall meh concept that isn't new or interesting. But commissions are commissions.

Kejmur

Getting Endbringers as potential love targets would be different this time around. I doubt it, but well :P
