As the Commander format becomes more popular, it often feels as if it's also becoming more and more homogenized. It can seem as though people are playing the same cards over and over again. On this episode, our resident MTG Hipster and Game Knights editor, Josh Murphy, joins the show to talk about how you can break the mold and make your decks more unique and more interesting.

Time is the #1 reason I net deck. Being an adult sucks.

Looking forward to watching this video this evening! In our playgroup, we recently tried a couple ways to inspire new decks: having someone else pick a commander for you to build around (I was given Kelsien!), or having a value cap like $50 for the deck (usually pushes the staple cards out as they tend to be pricier).

My most unique deck is probably Grimgrin, Corpseborn. This is a lesser known commander, but when he is seen, it's usually as a zombie tribal commander because of the free sac outlet enabling so much reanimation. I built mine as a Grimgrin deck, making full use of his untapping and board decimating abilities with a bunch of recursive creatures and token makers.

I have a Princess Twilight Sparkle (silver border legend)/Jodah, Archmage Eternal deck that revolves around Dragons, Knights, Ninja's, Pirates, Wizards and a splash of Unicorns. It's fun and unique everytime I play because you're looking to build off of a different tribe or tribes based on your opening hand.

I actually have a Boros Caltrops-style deck built around controlling combat through ghostly prison and damaging attackers/blockers. I can get my creatures through while their attacks are punished by Repercussions and Spitemare effects.

While It does tend towards typical, my Korvold is themed around Disney's take on The Black Cauldron, with him as The Horned King. Main focus is try to get one of the cauldron artifacts out to start summoning the "Cauldron Born". Grenzo is in there for the dungeon master, and squee for the gremlin as well. When the set up is on the board a couple friends just want to see it all since I got it so on theme. Though usually they destroy my board right after.

I have a full color dino and I am most proud of the deck in general because when morophon first came out I spent over 3 to 5 hours building with the dinos I had like Aging Altisaur and having all the Elder Dinos in the deck is Awesome.

Do you know why there isn't an Mp3 download for this episode??

My most unique deck is probably my atemsis pingers deck because its the closest I can get to an exodia deck

My most unique deck is I have a Sisay Weatherlight Captain deck that is built around the original and the new weatherlight crews and most of the spell are themed around art and flavor to the story of the weatherlight

I have one deck and it is voltron. But it is absolutely one of a kind. The commander is Haktos

My favorite unique deck is my pet deck: Myr tribal. Tiny robot trinketers and seemingly innocent artifacts that don't really do much alone and honestly look underwhelming before coming out of nowhere and assembling the ultimate Rube Goldberg machine that has been able to win in response to someone else winning off of another person trying to win. It's ridiculously fun and overly complex, but I love it nonetheless!.
