Show Notes:

In this episode, Josh and DJ are putting on their game design hats and asking the questions: What does the Commander format need? What is it missing? What tools are we lacking? What current cards and strategies are too powerful or well-positioned and could use some additional checks and balances? In short, what is our wish list for the format?

i would not play huge tracts of land if it were burgeoning for white but cost 3 most def

Looking at it. I could see people using "Hater of Fun" with cards like Evacuate to basically duplicate their board while bouncing everyone elses XP

and on the ramp thing, I dunno, White can nab them and got more of that in stuff like Boreas charger, but yeah. the other colors alot of time miss that.

You guys pretty much nailed it on widespread needs. Huge Tracts of Land is absolutely playable. I think there should be more conditional counterspells in non-blue colors. EX: Lapse of Certainty in white, Withering Boon in black, Warping Wail in colorless, etc. Expand on these. Also, want a completed "Urborg" cycle for each land type. And not things like Blood Moon that are violent toward non-basics. lands that turn all lands into a type of basic in addition to original type.

I think the combo issue is the biggest one. It's one of the main issues with the format. Regardless of if you're trying to play burn or aggro or voltron, you're doing triple the work while the combo player is playing the same number of cards to kill eight players as they need to kill one. Finding a good way to manage combo immediately makes attacking strategies more viable and actually helps to solve a lot of you other problems.

Leyline like cards to enforce the house rules others keep... an enchant with the rule on it that turns off the combo decks until they deal with the card... plus if it starts before the game... how cool!

lingering essence - make it 'from a spell or ability your opponents control' to prevent it from being a combo piece with deadeye navigator or so many other things.
