Bounce lands are bad. Fight me.

Hey Jimmy and Josh! I have a question for you, if that's OK. I have a player in my playgroup who I know fairly well and talk to regularly, but he likes to be manipulative and plays at other people to get them to not attack him rather than using actual skill and/or politics. For example: if i attacked him with a 2/2, he would complain how I always target him for attacks when it's really just 2 points of damage that one game. He also tries to exchange real world things for deals in games, like "Hey, if you buy me a pretzel at the cafeteria I won't attack you this turn". It's been really annoying for my playgroup and they want to tell him to not play with us anymore, but I'm not interested in starting a fight. Hpow do i counteract this situation?

I have another example of conceding somewhat out of spite that I think was justified. Essentially another player was using me as their own personal meat shield because they knew I was the target and would be eliminated before them. I had an empty board/hand and had nothing else to contribute other that the resources it would take to drain my life. Another player had the opportunity to remove the threat and give me a chance to rebuild, but instead used the opportunity to continue assembling a combo because they weren't the target. I scooped, and they promptly died because they no longer had combo assembly time. I think that's fair. When 1 player rises up, the game is supposed to self correct by turning into 3v1. Not 1 v 2 v 1 guy planning to use my health to buy time.

I think you guys hit the nail on the head near the end of the conceding discussion. I have a player I try to avoid at my LGS as he does this to spite people. If you will auto-concede to control magic effects, those cards now read “target salty player loses the game” which seems great. Too bad the guy at my lgs will wait until someone’s convoluted genesis wave with 5 clones resolves before conceding, after that player has put in the work to resolve all the triggers.

I had a game where i had to concede because of the most absurd amount of saltiness i've ever had. I play Gishath because he's my fav commander, played against an Atraxa, Brea, and 1 more i can't remember. first game was fine, it played like any game of Magic, I came in 3rd, didn't care, had a good time. We start a second game and it all falls apart. The Atraxa and Brea players seem to think Gishath is a threat worse than actual death, so they work together to prevent me from playing a single card. hard counters, bouncing, spot removal at every single play they can make. this is also ignoring the 4th player in the game who's just durdling from a bad opening hand. Once my hand ran out I scooped, infuriated that game was only a waste of time, 2 people effectively said I was not allowed to play because they were too scared of my deck's potential, making a game that felt like it wasn't allowed to happen. I don't think there's any level of justification to ruin a game over 1 commander. I hate to play against my brother's Karlov deck, but I won't go that far to stop it.

If they didn’t necessarily target you the first game, but did the second it’s probably because of the amount of impact Gishath had on the first game. You could have tried to team up with the fourth player to give the game a fighting chance instead of conceding.
