Look what you've done! No, wait, I mean that in a good way.

As 2022 comes to a close, I just wanted to thank you for making so many videos, podcast episodes, livestreams, and newsletter issues possible. Literally none of it could have happened without you -- yes, you personally!!! Every bit of your membership here allows me to focus my efforts on research, recording, and production, and I am so utterly grateful. Whether it's your financial support, sending me clips of stuff to check out, or sharing my work with a friend, I hope you appreciate just how much I appreciate you.

Here's just a sampling of some of this year's highlights:

  • A dozen YouTube videos! You helped me make videos about why gay men love The Golden Girls, about the astonishing lives of icons like Will & Grace's Leslie Jordan and Batman's Kevin Conroy, about the hidden history of Seinfeld's "not that there's anything wrong with that" episode, about the incomparable Charles Nelson Reilly, and much much more.
  • Podcasts! Over on The Sewers of Paris, the most-downloaded episodes of 2022 included a chat about going behind the scenes of The Golden Girls with Betty White, another about Hercules as a twink, a conversation with author Christopher Rice, and a cozy vs kinky discussion involving The Jungle Book. I also released a special Patrons-only podcast miniseries with my friend Samantha Rei about the fashion of Star Trek.
  • Livestreams! I love launching each new video with a livestream where I get to talk to you about the making the video, tell fun behind-the-scenes stories about TV and movies and celebs, and get your input on the stuff I make. You can watch all the past livestreams here, and I'm hoping to do more of these in 2023, so keep your eyes out for those.
  • Newsletter! Every week (well, almost every week) I send out a message to subscribers about some interesting bit of pop culture ephemera I've unearthed, or an observation about entertainment, or a little sneak peek at what I'm working on. If you like the bonus videos I do here on Patreon, you'll probably like the stories I share in the newsletter. Sign up here.

Whewwwww, and those are just a few highlights! You've kept me busy throughout 2022. And folks, get ready because 2023 is going to have even more, more, more, how do you like it, how do you like it.

I'm writing this message as I take a break between planning sessions for 2023's videos. I've got a bunch in the hopper already, with topics ranging from Broadway royalty ... to horror icons ... to Hollywood's first gay mafia ... to the time a gay bathhouse was nearly responsible for defunding Sesame Street. I'm also exploring ways to do more livestreams, so that we can spend more time talking to each other. (Oh and also I have a book coming out just in time for Pride, and I'll hopefully be traveling to a couple of cities for readings and events around May and June!) I can't wait for you to see what I'm cooking up.

Thanks again SO MUCH for being such an integral companion on this journey through entertainment history, and for sharing my enthusiasm for the fascinating stories behind the culture that connects us. I'm so glad to have you along for the ride. See you next year.

Can I get an alternative link to the video? For some reason the iOS app doesn’t allow me to see your embedded Venmo videos and I want to watch this.

https://vimeo.com/785111365/76716f8fc5 I watch on my iPad too. So strange hat Patreon can't figure out a fix.

Trevor

Thank you, Matt. Happy New Year everyone!

Hey Matt, as always, thanks for all the queer and gay affirming content!

Thank you, Matt. And you forgot that the fascination with Fleckman's was also because, around the same time, you had covered Fran Dresher who played Bobbi Fleckman in 'Spinal Tap'. And you were pondering whether there was any significance to the name.

Thank you for all you do for us. I’m educated and entertained all year by your amazing content, and don’t say it enough. Happy New Year, and again…thank you.

Thank you Matt! I enjoy you and your content! On a separate note, where did you get your T-shirt??

Ooooo! Come to Salt Lake City! Happy New year to you as well. I was so happy to see the CNR video, he was such a part of my childhood since I was a die hard Match Game fan.
