Hello! In this week's bonus video I've got the story of Leslie Jordan's ~incident~ at a Starbucks, when he stood up to a literally-raging homophobe. Also the unfortunate time he was on Star Trek and couldn't quite drop his accent. We're taking a look at a fascinating little TV artifact featuring an unexpected guest star on a game show, and gathering some tantalizing research about Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman (and an altercation with Brian Bedford, the voice of Robin Hood).

YES! Dude, I always love these patron videos. They’re my faves. I’m so happy you brought up novelty records. One of my favorites from the 60s is God Bless Tiny Tim. Tiny Tim was the odd looking fellow whose vocal range went from high falsetto to deep baritone and he played the ukulele on Carson and other late night shows. While he wasn’t gay (word was that he was a homophobe after a gay encounter that he may have accidentally liked too much) he was considered a “queer act” in the non- gay sense because he was a weirdo and spectacle. All that said, his album was solid.

Ugh I swear every time I think they fixed that it breaks again. I added a backup link to the post, let me know if it's still giving you issues!

Death Trap is a real treat if you haven't seen it. It has so many twists and turns and was a huge inspiration for Rian Johnson's Knives Out. Because it's kind of slipped into obscurity, the twists haven't been spoiled for people younger than Gen X. People who think "meta" started with Scream will be shocked when they see it was alive and well 15 years earlier. It's also an unfortuante example where homophobia wrecked its box office. One critic was so upset at "the kiss" he listed all the spoilers and twists in his review. Christopher Reeve even said publicly that one review easily cost them $10 million at the box office. It would be like if one reviewer hated The Sixth Sense and in the first sentence said "So Bruce Willis plays this guy who is killed at the start of the movie, but doesn't realize he's dead until the end". Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve would appear one more time together in a sort of comedy version of Death Trap- Noises Off which is itself very meta because it's a play about play where the lines between the play and the production of the play start to overlap. Noises Off is also the final film performance of Denholm Elliot who died from an AIDS-related illness.

Wow I just read Kevin Conroy's comic & I am bawling my eyes out. He's always been "my" Batman & I had absolutley no clue he was gay. It is stunning how he poured his life into the character. Thank you for tipping me off. Check out the comic ya'll. DC Pride 2022

With what we now know, watching Jeffrey Jones around those kids adds another level of cringe to those clips

Here's a clip of LJ telling the story about his confrontation a few years later on his IG: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/tvshowbiz/video-2162962/Video-Leslie-Jordan-tells-infamous-Starbucks-confrontation.html

For some reason The People Next Door reminded me of the Cavemen sitcom which was based on the Geico cavemen in the early 2000s. All of the episodes were on YouTube (not sure if they still are 😕) and despite being weird I found myself sucked into it. It just goes to show how important good writing is. Premise is important, though, because if you can't get people curious to watch it all of the good writing in the world isn't going to help you. 😉 At any rate, I think it would be funny to see your reaction to Cavemen sometime. Maybe as a watch party thing or something. Whatever. Anyhoo, take care! 😎☮️❤️🌈🕊

I was absolutely heartbroken when I heard of Kevin Conroy's passing. So naturally, my go to video I watched to comfort myself is a wonderful recording of a panel of famous voice actors reading the script to Star Wars: A New Hope. Kevin had the honor of doing scene transition narration as Batman (obviously), and it is a riot overall. About an hour and 20 minutes long. https://youtu.be/DFV_zTBpnOE

Brian Bedford was one of my first celeb crushes at the tender age of 10-11? Imagine my distress to discover he was closer to my parents age than mine!
