Hello friends!

So, that was April, a month that was both 5 minutes and 84 years long. How are you?

I don't think I'd say that we're all settling into a comfortable routine just yet, what with all the upheaval and uncertainty and whatnot. But even with life still kind of hard to predict, I do see folks adapting where possible by creating things to look forward to: The wonderful Arson Nicki has been hosting some truly lovely drag-videogaming livestreams over on Twitch; there's a fantastic new podcast called Queer Quarantine Radio starring BenDeLaCreme, Jinkx Monsoon, Peaches Christ, and Major Scales; Andrew Lloyd Weber is releasing increasingly perplexing concert videos; and of course we're all horny on main, now and forever.

And so I am eternally, boundlessly, bottomlessly thankful to you for your support of The Sewers of Paris, Culture Cruise, and more. Here's what your Patreon membership makes possible this month:

  • Culture Cruise! All backers get early ad-free access to Culture Cruise videos, taking a deep dive on queer content in the entertainment we love. This month, I'm working on a video about the groundbreaking (and for many years, lost) drag documentary The Queen. Watch for that Culture Cruise video to come out on May 22. And if you missed it, here's last month's video about how small Outback towns (and indeed all of Australia) was transformed by the movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
  • The Sewers of Paris! Each week on the podcast, a guest plucks a piece of entertainment from their past -- books, movies, music, shows, and more -- and answers the question: how did it change your life? Recent episodes featured Andrew Mercado discussing the super gay Australian soap opera Number 96; Charles Busch recalling his play Vampire Lesbians of Sodom; and Seth Rudetsky revealing secrets of Broadway.
  • Livestreams! I've been trying something new with the livestreams: rather than just sitting there and talking, I play some super relaxing videogames while we all chat about what we've been up to. It's been a really soothing way to kick back and hang out and get away from the daily stress of, you know, everything. Our next livestream is on Saturday May 9 at 11 Pacific. Click the bell here to get a reminder when we go live.
  • Cozy Pants! A podcast for Patreon backers at $4/month and up! Join me and my partner James for a fun affectionate chat about the cultural comforts that are lighting up our lives -- and of course, a very slow review of the Tyra Banks' fantasy novel Modelland.
  • Weekly Debrief! Get caught up on the latest LGBTQ news, how it affects you, and actions you can take! Weekly Debrief is your quick roundup of everything you need to know about what's happening with queer people in the world, and how you can help.

Oh and BTW if you like LGBTQ podcasts you may enjoy my other project, Queens of Adventure, a comedy-adventure podcast that stars drag queens playing Dungeons & Dragons. We recently launched a second podcast called Queens of Adventure: Legends that features one-shot stories, stand-alone adventures, and live show recordings, so that's a great place to dive in!

As we navigate this weird new world, I want to thank you again for backing my video, audio, and livestream projects. I couldn't make any of it without you! I'm ferociously grateful to you all for helping to make the Internet just a little bit gayer, now more than ever.

Matt

April, I made it out alive!, almost. Good God, what a hell of a month. But things are going well at work. Out and proud at work and getting along really well with my coworkers . So, yea for that. Otherwise, fuck you April. See you next year.

Whew, it's been rough but it sounds like you're showing April that it's not the boss of you.
