Question: Do you ever ponder for these sorts of Differing Romance stories having the protagonist transform to match? If not into a similar shape/species as the partner, then into something similarly festive. Maybe he just needs to be a robot too. Date all the slugs and turn into a slug as a reward so you can keep hanging out in their slug tunnels(gosh!)

An interesting question! To answer, where my mind is at with these is celebrating difference. Or to be more precise, finding commonality and connection even with those differences. That's also why it ends up being a human x alternative. The "normal" meeting the "not so normal" and both being accepted.

I get ya. I tend to explore difference from the other way, of someone becoming different and seeing what it's like AS that new thing. Yours is much more "I'm not you, I can't be you, but I like you and appreciate you."
