The Jimmy Choo x Sailor Moon collection was so good it inspired me to design some high fashion Sailor Moon shoes of my own 😚⁠

Every Sailor Scout has their own unique pair of shoes, and in a way each shoe says a lot about their personality. So it made perfect sense to make them high fashion! IDK if I can top the Jimmy Choo shoes, especially since I can't make these IRL obviously, but it was fun interpreting them in my own way.⁠

Sorry for not posting this on Patreon first! I rushed to get these drawn while in Taiwan so I could follow the Jimmy Choo hype 🤣 There's some perspective mistakes on the Mars heel that are killing me because I couldn't figure out a proper reference in time...

The Jimmy Choo collection was more about recreating the Sailor Scout shoes verbatim, which I think makes sense if your goal is to appeal to a general audience that doesn't really know Sailor Moon very well. I personally was a little disappointed by most of the shoes, so I chose the approach of designing for fans who knew a little more about the series, and adding little twists to the original shoes to make them more interesting. Dunno about profitability and marketability but good thing I don't have to worry about that!

(There was one pair of shoes I adored from Jimmy Choo: these Luna platform loafers with iridescent black leather. SO my style. WAY too expensive at $1125 USD. Also sold out anyways.)

I did still draw inspiration from the Jimmy Choo collection, as I liked their idea of having two different Sailor Moon boots - a couture version and a more wearable version. For my couture Sailor Moon boots I was inspired by the infamous Vetements x Manolo Blahnik boots as seen on Lisa from Blackpink, Rihanna, and Kendall Jenner.

Sailor Mercury's boots were also inspired by the original Jimmy Choo collab, I really loved their shape and didn't want to change them too much!

Sailor Mars seems to be one of the most popular shoes in the collection based on the community response, although I feel like the characters are gonna wear down and disappear the more you wear those shoes. I guess there are ways to prevent it, like if you use a completely different material rather than painting the characters. My joke solution was to make the shoes so uncomfortable to wear that no one will wear them, thus the characters stay intact LOL either way good thing these don't exist IRL!

Sailor Jupiter's shoes are of course inspired by my Princess Jupiter design. In retrospect I would have made the green even more dark. I wish you could edit photo posts on Twitter and Instagram 😔

My only notes for Sailor Venus are that one day I will learn how to render satin properly, and then it will be O V E R
