short gameplay video to give you an idea of what the prototype is currently like! i've posted gifs from this video before so a lot of this is deja vu if you've seen my past posts, but i figured it'd be nice to show how the full gameplay looks.

the music is not final...actually, figuring out music for this game has been quite a long story.

composing music is something i am very confident that i cannot do, so i always knew i would have to find a composer. the good news is that there is no shortage of aspiring video game composers out there - there's actually so many ppl who are looking to break into that scene. so i put out a call, and i got so many responses and people offering their portfolios.

the bad news is that i didn't like any of their music and rejected them all. it actually burnt me out on the game for a bit, because it was that much of a bummer haha

i think it's better for me to seek out a composer that i like, rather than have people apply to me. but i also don't think this game is so good that i should seek out a famous composer, so i'm just quietly browsing and hoping something good pops up in my youtube recommendations.

i quite like the composer of this piece, which is a placeholder for this video and not the final composition (I found it on YouTube). her style seems to be exactly what i'm looking for. she's in korea so i don't know how well we'd be able to communicate, but i might try to reach out to her anyways.

the other option is to pick a classical piece and record it myself (or have some musician friends record it), since most classical music is public domain. i tried overlaying some classical music over this video, and i think it fits the elegant vibes of serving the customers but not so much the gameplay of merging desserts...so i'm not sure.

i do think i'd like something a little more elegant than the current music, but still gamelike! but the worst case scenario is that i just pay the license for this particular track, because i think it works okay. idk, what do you think?

In my opinion, (and this is not that surprising because classical music is an influence on your style) there is a really really appealing unity between the music and the style. I really think it adds up to more than the sum of its parts! The current stock music even if it's temporary hits a nice mix of invigorating and relaxing, so even if you pivot from this specific music I have the feeling that you have a very clear sense of tone musically, visually with the pastel and the detail etc. I find the idea of this puzzle very satisfying to watch because it successfully does the game thing of taking a real concept of combining ingredients into finished food and simplifies it in a way that then can be made into a fun repeated mechanic. So overall, I think the like GAME is all there if not every or any piece being done and exactly right. You didn't really ask for crit so I'm not giving that but I will say a - I really hope there will be like some kind of room within the game for every little piece of art to be highlighted cause there's so much joy and attention to detail in it... I duno I kind of thought of pointing you towards Overcooked where when they first intro a recipe it has like an explanatory card to tell the player and that might have such a rewarding feelings as a player like "oooh I can now make strawberry-rhubarb macarons by combining 3 vanillas and a strawberry!" Lastly, as far as like the emotional reward of the game I think what you're already achieving is the feeling of having an exquisitely designed confection arrive on the plate in front of us so we can sit and enjoy reading for the afternoon so like I duno if that's a helpful sense from the outside of what you're "offering" but that's how it strikes me cause that's def a vibe a lot of us want in our lives.\
