Prototype Sailor Fashion (Patreon)

The first batch of Sailor Moon artbook designs! (I know I shared the nautical sailor fashion a while back, but I have to revise their colors + this is the first set of designs that I think is ready to go)

These designs are based on the "prototype sailor scouts", which are Naoko Takeuchi's initial designs for the Sailor Scouts as seen in concept art. From left to right: Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter.

The original prototype designs are not great imo - some of those elements definitely don't go together (Jupiter's is particularly oof), but I give them props for trying to express each character's individuality. Most of Sailor Venus's prototype outfit ended up becoming the final outfit for her alter ego, Sailor V. And I thought Mars's V-shaped hemline on her top didn't work at all, but now the Bridgerton corset top trend is kicking in...I think I'll have to draw a few corset tops for the next designs 🤔

But anyways, I think the final Sailor Scout suits were so perfect that I'm glad these were only prototypes. Still, reinterpreting the prototype designs into wearable fashion was a fun challenge. I'm not sure what this fashion style is...schoolgirl chic?
