There is always a first for everything, and so the story goes.

On January 24th 2020, Anna Lisa was visiting Los Angeles and whenever she is here it is always a full schedule. This time was no different, but on that schedule was an art show. I have never been a regular attendee of art shows on my lonesome. I have always gone to them, just in company of a friend. This one was no different in that sense, but far different than any other show I had been to.

This show was put on by NAKID Magazine in collaboration with Future Eyes exhibiting some beautiful and brilliant pieces of work. Future Eyes a company and the brain child of Brent, the owner. It is a glass prism company that makes optical modifiers for photography, many prisms. The collective show was as amazing as his products.

Anna and I arrived to the space in Downtown Los Angeles before the show had opened up and we were some of the first few in. A quick gander around the space, a stop by the bar and a cheers between friends. The show went from 9 P.M. until I believe about 2 A.M., we were there for most of it, but left before the end of the night due to having New York Style Pizza on our minds.

I had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing people at this show including Brent, Talie, Alea and more. I even got to see Brandon Boyd once more since some of his photography was hanging in the show. The night was filled with mingling amongst other creatives all the while everyone asking if Anna Lisa and I were dating; which is a normal occurrence every time we are together.

The art was beautiful, eclectic and each more original than the last. I can remember walking around the space a seemingly endless amount of times eyeing each work with a silent applause. Hand down the best exhibition I had been too.

Fast forward to only a few weeks ago, Brent (Future Eyes) had asked to send me a couple prisms to play around with and needless to say I was more than elated to oblige. With the prisms in the mail and just a couple short days later these beautiful optical modifiers were in my hands and waiting to be used. I of course posted the arrival onto my Instagram story and that was went Brent asked me if I would like to be apart of his next collective show. I nearly dropped my phone over reading this message for a couple reasons. I had never been apart of an exhibition nor had I ever been asked. Secondly, the staggering quality and brilliancy of the work that hung in his last show humbled me that he would consider asking me to do so. Once again, I obliged without a doubt.

I knew I wanted to shoot something special to hang and knew just the person to shoot with; Reed.

During her last venture to Los Angeles we got together one afternoon and shot for this exhibition. Of course, digital is my main medium because that is what is most widely accepted in today's time. However, you all know that film is my true love and passion, most specifically peel apart or pack film. That was exactly the plan. Shoot the piece that will hang on Polaroid 669 Type Color film. Fun, exciting and just felt right. My film is my favorites works, so it just made sense.

Little did I know, shooting these images on 669 Type through a rangefinder camera would prove to be a daunting task.

More of the analogue story to come with the release of the 669 Type exposures this Saturday, in two days time. For now, enjoy these digital test shots we captured for framing and prism placement purposes.
