Good news, everyone, I'm bringing you bad news! Wait, that didn't make sense... or did it?

Good news: I've got the JP ready for dust and mud effects. I've also got the washing and rusting video ready. I've chosen the main viewing angle for the diorama. And I've received something very cool in the mail, and I'll show it to you later today.

Bad news: I'm sorry for being so irregular with the updates. I try to up my working pace a notch, but something from real life always gets in the way and I get bogged down. In other bad news, I completely screwed up the rusty areas where tool mounts were ripped off. Oh, the irony! The one and only reason I picked this specific vehicle and I completely blow it! Well, the ones on the left hand side are okay, I'm pretty happy with those, but the other side, especially the large mount on the front, is pure atrocity! So that settles it, the Jagdpanther will be "parked" in the diorama facing forward so the other side will be hidden against a wall, a building, or something large enough to obscure my epic failure, lol.

I should've chosen a completely different approach. Looking back, I should've covered those missing mounts with strips of masking tape while I was airbrushing the green and brown camo. Then I would just fill them with small random chips of dark grey and dark brown and tied them together with a rusty wash.

What did I do instead? I went to town and "drawn" the shapes with light yellow, filled them with grey, covered with rust washes, added more yellow on the outside, then more grey on the inside, then brown chips on the outside, then more grey, more rust... just pure, hot mess.

On the other hand, I've got some ideas on how it can be improved, fixed and "toned down" so to say, haha. For example, runs of dripping Dark Yellow which would definitely drip behind the tool mounts. Or to hide a portion of the big one with a hanging jerry can! But for now, I need to take a break from those details and instead do something more enjoyable. So the next thing on the menu is the lower hull and some dust and dirt!

Silly question at this point, but wouldn't it be a base primer color under anything that was added later before the exterior paint was done?

I think you're rusty metal look is great! If you think they're something awkward maybe is the transition from the rusty metal to the paint surface. Living in Québec where rusty things is a daily battle, painted surface, next to rusted one, always have a rust hue. Maybe...
