Welcome back to The MinnMax Show podcast! On this week's episode, Ben Hanson, Kyle Hilliard, Kelsey Lewin, and Jacob Geller debate and create a list of the most epic video games ever made. We're factoring in the game's scope, ambition, budget, and downright lunacy. Then we unpack some new games we've been enjoying like Rollerdrome from Roll7, Midnight Fight Express, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on the Nintendo Switch. Then we answer some wonderful questions from the community in the back half of the show.

Surprised Naughty Dog didn’t come up in the most epic discussion. The Last of Us Part 2 seems like a possible candidate: - Absurd levels of detail (down to the exact pace and acceleration of Ellie’s breathing as you switch between actions and speeds) - Lunatic levels of story risks and POV changes - Gobs of money Not sure if it makes the final list—and I personally have several qualms with the game itself—but feels like a contender given the definition.

My two additions would be 1) Wing Commander IV, they spend 12 million trying to treat this game like a Hollywood movie and 2) Final Fantasy 14,. The fact that they threw the budget behind 14 to be able to literally blow up the in game world and remake the entire game is mind boggling go me.

Wing Commander was going to be my suggestion! Though I lean towards 3, just because I played it first and I remember thinking it felt like the most expensive game I'd played up to that point. The entire PC CD-Rom boom of the early 90s has a lot of contenders for this, I think.

Yeah, the whole wing commander series really was an excersize in how far things could be pushed technologi ally and production wise. If I recall correctly it was really one of the first games that made the push for requiring a graphics card in order to run it.

What about Star Citizen? I do not know if it should be considered since it is technically still being worked on, but it definitely has the budget and lunacy categories down.

So listening to I learned that Seattle is known as the Emerald City. Syracuse, NY is also known as the Emerald City? Was having a real brain melt for the first few minutes of this episode.
