Hey Ben and Cohorts! I think it’s about time we settled an age-old question: Who are the greatest video game composers of all time? But rather than simply debating about it, I thought it might be more fun to rank them on a totally not-objective, not-definitive top 10 list. I’m going to give you guys a list of video game composers and the games/series/franchises that they’re most known for composing, and y’all gotta rank them. - Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears) - Koji Kondo (Super Mario series, The Legend of Zelda series) - David Wise (Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong Racing, Battletoads) - Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts series, Mario & Luigi series, Final Fantasy XV) - Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy I-XI) - Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie series, Donkey Kong 64, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark) - Jeremy Soule (Skyrim, Star Wars: KOTOR) - Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night) - Shoji Meguro (Shin Megami Tensei series, Persona series) - Martin O’Donnell (Halo: CE - Halo: Reach) If you have any objections or have someone you think belongs on this list, feel free to make any adjustments. Thanks!

Howdy Cohorts and the dancin’ Hansons. What are your best experiences with non-gamers loving video games? Like my mom for example, I don’t think she’s ever looked at a controller or arcade cabinet in her life…. EXCEPT she got super into the puzzle game Columns when I had a Sega Genesis as a kid. Something about the relaxing melodic music and the slow paced gameplay really stuck with her and she’d play that all the time. Do you have any memories of people who absolutely don’t play games falling in love with one? Thanks Bob

When it comes to games with a competitive element, what's most important to you? Winning at all costs? Learning and improving? Just having a fun time? Also, which MinnMax cohort/friend of the show is the most competitive when it comes to games?

Hey guys! I redeemed myself for my December BetterQuest goal to spend more time with the kids in my family! I visited my nephews 2 weeks in a row last month. I taught them how to play a board game called Sushi Go and then they showed me the world they built in Minecraft creative mode. I’m so surprised by how creative these kids are! Kinda makes me wish I had Minecraft as a kid cuz it’s like having an infinite amount of legos. My goal for February is to take a break from Instagram and Reddit for a month. Wish me luck!! 😣 And good luck on your goals too!!

Hi Ben and the Gang, Let’s play everyone’s favorite game, say it together now, “Gamer Monkey’s Paw!”’ You find Donkey Kong’s severed hand lying on the ground, and naturally pick it up. The spirit of Cranky Kong then appears before you and says: “You MUST make ONE gamer wish, but be careful, each wish comes with a curse! Pick one of these five wishes:” 1. You have Mario’s Fire Flower, but for the rest of your life you must introduce yourself by saying: “It’s-a me, a-Ben Hanson!” in your best Charles Martinet voice. 2. You can run as fast as Sonic, but you can only eat chili dogs. Chili dogs are healthy for you for some reason, so you won’t die of a heart attack. 3. You have Colt Vaughn’s “Shift” (“Blink”) ability, but every morning you wake up with a really bad hangover. 4. You are as strong as Kratos, but every once in a while, a stranger knocks on your door and wants to fight you. 5. You have Master Chief’s Mjolnir armor, but you have no friends except an AI that’s constantly bothering you. Which one of these wishes/curses do you choose to spend the rest of your life with? Choose Wisely, Dan Villone

Something that I have always thought about is the story behind Too Human. Of course Dennis Dyak is infamous in the developer world but I always wonder just how much impact a director can have on their game considering the amount of input that is required of the team. I think in any line of work there's always some sort of fall-guy and it always seems like the leader is essentially the person who can handle the most criticism. The question really is what do you think makes a good game director versus a bad one and how that might play a role in not only the success of a video game but it's critical success as well?

Since Bungie just got bought by Sony and Destiny is a franchise in which I have spent approximately 5000 hrs, I decided to ask a gun question. What is the favourite gun you have looted/used in a game and why? My favourite gun to loot was Year 1 Gjallarhorn (which I got in year 3 whilst dead at Atheon in VoG). My favourite gun to use, however, is the rocket launcher from Unreal Tournament 99 because it was such a versatile weapon. It felt chonky but responsive and had a secondary firing mode where you accumulated multiple rockets and shot them out in volley. I played a ton of hours of CTF-Face with low gravity and rockets only. Oh the fun we had without loot, battle passes, microtransactions or xp grind! Cheers from Toronto Canada R0CK3T5YNT5T aka Keith(Rocket Scientist)

With recent acquisitions, do you think Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft have further shown the differences between them? I see them as three fundamentally different companies that have video games as their overlap. Microsoft is a software and services Company, Sony is a hardware and entertainment company, and Nintendo is toy company. I think it's why Nintendo refuses to take a loss on a console (or anything), Sony pushes hard for narrative content and electronics-fidelity, and Microsoft acquires whatever makes them a more robust software service provider. Agree?
