Too Long Since the Last Blog! (Patreon)

Hey there guys! I love you! I missed you! How have you been? You look great!
In case you couldn't tell, I'm pretty behind in my Patreon-related stuff and I feel pretty bad about it. I haven't done a blog in what feels like ages, and I haven't uploaded an LP in months. I'm glad that I got to do those Arlocasts, but I do need to step up my game.
The Switch launch has taken all of my attention, and I'm still hitting the subject pretty hard, trying to ride this wave as far as I can. People want to hear about the Switch, and as long as I've got something interesting to talk about, I want to give it to them. I'm pleased with the videos I've gotten out so far; the one with Death was particularly fun to do. I'm a big fan of "trick" videos, as I feel they add a little bit of magic back into a video platform that tends to lack surprises. Same with the "midnight launch" video. Lockstin was awesome about helping me shoot that one, and I'm really pleased with the reactions to both those videos. Judging by most of my videos on Gnoggin, a large portion of viewers don't like to be tricked/joked with. So it was great to see basically nothing but upvotes and happy comments on them.
Oh yeah, one other way I've been dropping the ball is not getting you $10+ guys videos early. Part of the reason is that with the Switch as hot as it is, I want to get everything out ASAP. But then there's also the thing that I THINK I mentioned before, but just in case I didn't, it's come to my attention that a video's "newness" affects its exposure. Like there's a short window when you first upload, and letting a finished video sit there for a day hurts that. I haven't really figured out a way around this yet. Maybe I just need to upload each video to a seperate account just to share with you guys, but then that's a lot of extra steps... Well hey, if you've got any suggestions, let me know. I definitely want to give you guys a little something extra when I can, and if you're paying for early videos you gon' git 'em one way or another.
But now onto the stuff that's actually interesting! What I'm working on!
Just yesterday I had an idea that might just be my next video. It's about how the Switch has something of a unique opportunity that previous systems haven't had. I'll talk about my experiences with playing handheld games and how I've come to realize just how much of a selling point playing everything on the go is. At first I wasn't sure, but after playing Zelda anywhere and everywhere I'm really warming up to the idea. And if other people feel the same way, that's going to push software in a very strong and unique way. There are many games that I've played on other systems and I've never cared to double dip into, but suddenly with the Switch I'm like, "Oh man, that would be awesome! I would buy the heck out of that!!!" It's a little hard to explain here, but the video will do a better job. So I might start on that script soon.
Then there's the Switch hardware review that I've been planning on doing since launch but I can't seem to find time to shoot it. It requires taking up a lot of space in my house (camera and lights all around the kitchen table) and I haven't been able to make it happen. But hopefully that will happen soon.
Also in the "wanted to do it since launch but hopefully soon" category, I want to do a review of 1 2 Switch. This is even trickier though because I'm trying to get some of my friends to coordinate so I can actually get some footage of a group of people playing the game. It will feel very different from a regular review for this reason, so I think it will be fun. And expect one or two special cameo appearances in that one. ;)
Oooh, so HERE'S a juicy little secret tidbit for you fine folks. At this point I figure that my Zelda review is going to be so late that it's going to be for my fans more than anything--people who aren't necessarily trying to figure out if they should buy it, but instead people who just want to know what my feelings are. So I've decided that I'm really going to go to town on this one. At the moment I'm toying with the idea of making the review an entire series of videos exploring the various aspects of the game in great detail. That way I can take all the time I want and not have to awkwardly segue between sections (which is sometimes the hardest part about writing a review). I'd love to hear what you guys think about that idea. I think it would be cool, and befitting to such a huge, important game.
Speaking of reviews, I've received word that I'll be getting a review copy of the game Snake Pass, which has been getting some good attention from Nintendo fans! The game comes out near the end of the month, so I can only hope they get it to me soon so I can get my review out in a timely fashion.
As far as non-Nintendo reviews go, I'm pretty darn bummed. As you know Horizon didn't really happen, and I'm debating whether it's worth doing a super late one when I know it won't get watched very much. Then Mass Effect comes out in like a week, and I could just focus super hard on that and get it out as fast as I can, but just my luck I'm going to be on a family trip for the first week of April, and I highly doubt I can play such a huge game and review it between the 24th and the 31st. Man, the universe just does not want me to review non-Nintendo games, huh? XP So I have to decide if I'm still trying to hit Mass Effect as fast as I can at the expense of making Horizon EVEN LATER, or doing Horizon first and making both about the same amount of late. If, of course, I do either. Blugh. I guess we'll just have to see what happens. I really can't wait until getting early copies of big games is a sure thing, because it would have helped so much in this case.
Well, I think that's about it for now. I've been playing a lot of Zelda whenever I can, and hooooooboy, this game is something special. It's frustrating spending so much potential video-making time on it, but I think it's pretty important for future discussion and video-makeage, especially if I want to do a very in-depth review.
Thanks so much to any new patrons I've gotten recently! You guys are amazing! Drop a comment below!
And until next time, you stay awesome.
