Hey all!
I knew once the news of the Horse Ranch EP dropped, I'd be working on this mod, especially when we learned that unicorns would be absent from the pack aside from a CAS asset and a few vfx. Well, now your unicorns can do more than just stand around and look pretty!
This mod introduces unicorns as a full-fledged occult with interactions and gameplay, so let's go over the features!
Where to Find Unicorns-
Unicorns can be created by making a horse in CAS and using a *cheat in-game, with testingcheats enabled, to make them an official “unicorn”. Or, if you want to find them in the wild, they can be searched for in Sylvan Glade by clicking on the ground. There's also a way to get a unicorn by using a new lot trait included with the mod.
Because the developers blocked horses from being able to visit Sylvan Glade, I included the ability for them to travel there from the Willow Creek tree or you can click a sim while in Sylvan Glade and choose the "Bring Here..." interaction, where you can select any of your household horses.
*There are several cheats included in this mod for turning horses into unicorns, changing their alignment, etc. By entering "testingcheats true" into the cheat console and shift+clicking the horse/unicorn, you will see a "Unicorn" pie menu pop up with these cheats.
Rainbow's End Lot Trait-
There is a new lot trait called “Rainbow's End”. These lots are rumored to be where rainbows touch the ground, making it a very magical place! In the evening and through the night, there is a chance that a unicorn may appear and bless your foliage or cause some trouble depending on the unicorn's Alignment.
Alignment-
Unicorns can either be Good or Evil, depending on the way they use their magic. Blessing plants and sims, casting positive auras, and generally doing benevolent things will shift the unicorn toward being Good, while cursing plants and sims, casting negative auras, and doing dastardly things will shift the unicorn toward Evil. Once they are far enough on one side or the other, they will have some extra abilities, gain fun from their respectively aligned magic, and gain some special vfx.
Familiars-
Unicorns can be bound as familiars to Spellcasters, as well as Fairies and Witches if you have my Fairies vs. Witches mod. As familiars, unicorns will have inherent benefits and can be summoned at any time.
Abilities-
Unicorns have several abilities, some of which require them to be either fully Good or fully Evil. Most of these powers can be encouraged by sims who are mounted on them, but all of them can be used directly if you have the Playable Pets Mod.
Blessings: Unicorns can bless plants, which makes them grow rapidly, become high quality, and fulfills all the plant's needs. They can also bless sims, which will give them better skill gains and more successful social interactions for a while. If a sim is pregnant, unicorns can also bless their pregnancy, which will give the resulting baby a special trait!
Summon Plant: As it sounds, unicorns can summon plants from the ground!
Curses: Unicorns can also curse plants, making them wither and die. They can also curse sims, making them lose their ability to gain skills efficiently and they'll have less successful socializations.
Smiting: Evil unicorns can smite sims, calling down a lightning bolt and giving the sim a shock. Be careful, as this could potentially kill them!
Reviving Magic: Good unicorns can use their restorative powers to bring a ghost back to life!
Summon Grim Reaper: Evil unicorns are able to whinny into the void and call the Grim Reaper to pay a visit to the land of the living.
Summon Ingredients: If your unicorn is bound as a familiar, they can be asked to summon ingredients, which will conjure a small package that can be opened by sims and will contain a small selection of random ingredients.
Auras: There are a few auras unicorns can cast, which will have an effect on nearby sims. This will drain the unicorn's Magic Energy and will also shift their Alignment for the duration of the aura.
Horn Dust: A unicorn's horn is made of pure magic and is the source of their power. If you are friendly enough with a unicorn, you can ask them for horn dust. They might give you a small sample of a fine, iridescent dust, which has the ability to cure all diseases and curses if used on a sim once and can transform a horse into a unicorn! If used more than once on a sim, it can give them temporary magical powers!
Teleportation: Unicorns can teleport directly to Sylvan Glade or the Magic Realm (requires ROM game pack) by themselves or with a sim mounted on them.
Magical Aura: Unicorns emit a magical aura, which gives nearby spellcasters, fairies, and witches a special buff that will boost their magical abilities. If the unicorn is a familiar, this will add an extra buff and give the sim a higher chance of casting successful spells.
Compatibility-
This mod requires the Horse Ranch expansion pack only. The only game file it overrides is the "Use Bladder" interaction for horses, so it shouldn't conflict with any other mods unless they also alter that interaction.
I HIGHLY recommend using this mod in conjunction with the Playable Pets mod. It appears to be outdated, but I used it throughout the development of this mod without any issues. However, horses weren't designed to be playable, so there will be strange interactions and unfinished buffs visible if you use that mod.
I also recommend using this with my Fairies vs. Witches mod! These occults complement each other and unicorns have an effect on Spellcasters, Fairies, and Witches. Also, Sylvan Glade looks so much more magical with fairies and unicorns running around. ;)
Installation-
Like all my other mods, extract the contents from the zip folder and place it directly into your mods folder. I highly recommend placing the .ts4script file DIRECTLY into your mods folder instead of in a subfolder to avoid issues.
Future Plans-
This mod isn't quite as expansive as some of my other mods (mostly due to limitations for pets), but I definitely want to continue adding to this mod and give unicorns more gameplay like I've been doing with my other occult mods.
