This is one of my favorites, and the episode that really hooked me on the show. It gives good insight into Twilight's character quirks, and also pokes gentle fun at the formula of the first season. From here, the show increasingly pushes itself beyond the bounds of a glorified toy commercial, and branch out and explore characters beyond Twilight Sparkle and her core friends.

This is the episode that many "bronies" used to show their friends who were skeptical of MLP that it was actually way funnier and better than they'd expect. Definitely a good display of one of Twilight's core personality quirks: anxiety leading to freakouts. This episode also marked an important transition in the series. Previously, the series had been marketed as educational programming (As there was a letter to the princess at the end of every episode). As such, there HAD to be a lesson in every episode, or they would lose the educational tag. From here, they dropped the tag, as by now the show runners were very aware that a much older audience was watching along with the original target audience. By dropping this designation, they were able to break free of the requirement to shoehorn in a lesson into every episode, and could instead focus on world building if they chose to do so. It opened up their freedom of creativity, and you begin to see that come into effect almost immediately.

A good example of a legendary MLP animation error, if you look at the pony kindergarten, right row at the back, the foal has a unicorn horn and pegasi wings.

yeah these characters aren't completely stable they do run into issues this was so hilarious because we've come to know tia by now being very calm and understanding but twi micro mange's every detail and if they all don't fit her view of what should happen she goes all crazy

Ah the Twilight freak-out ep, it's still glorious. As was your reaction to it. This was to allow the show to break away from the pattern of shoehorning in Twilight in every ep to learn a lesson. The changes to the opening theme aren't a different one, just an updated version, that along with other upgrades kick in on this since it's the first ep made under the season 2 budget. Such as now all unicorns magic aura has it's own color, usually the eye color of the pony using it. Celestia being so upset then so quickly alright makes a lot more sense after you've seen EQG, which you have, when hearing about Twilight doing something like this could have triggered memories of other students who cracked. Also, fun animation error, one of the foals in her magic kindergarten imagine spot was an alicorn that fans named Princess Erroria. Buckle up, things are about to get amazing.... and loud, very very loud....
