Hey folks, here's a quick update on what I'm working on right now.

After some early design work for the new Generative.fm player, I realized I'd need to make some  changes to how I structure the code for the generative systems. I'm finalizing those changes and starting to upgrade each piece. Two of the biggest improvements this will bring include:

  • Less CPU usage for many pieces. That means less crackling/glitchy audio.
  • Faster start times for many pieces.

I'll also be making some other general improvements which will make things sound the way they're supposed to, and some other changes that are specific to individual pieces. For example, I fixed a bug in Lemniscate that was causing part of it to break after playing for long periods of time.

I'm really doing this to support new features in the next version of the player, but I'll also be updating the current version to take advantage of these changes in the meantime.

I'm also progressing on designs of the new version which I'm excited to share once they're ready. Not sure when that will be as there's a lot to do yet, but I also want to get your feedback before things are really finalized.

Thanks!
