"Common Traps to avoid" Gold From Rock

Anonymous

Hmm interesting could you filter and add sodium metabisulfate Na2S2O5 to get the gold out or is their too many impurites for that cody? I used once 31 percent HCl plus 3 percent H202 on a cellphone and got a gold slurry with Na2S2O5.

Keep in mind this was done in the winter at 4 degrees to react it and fume it then done and stored with ice at -5 deg C.

CodysLab

It might work or it might not, just depends on what the impurities are.

How Not To Get Gold From Rock, Part 1

...or you could instead just intentionally add MnO2 to rocks that don't have it and just use cheap HCl to leach gold out of them instead of also adding expensive HNO3. With the caveat that commonly sold pottery-grade MnO2 will actually not reach with HCl because it's already calcinated and has changed composition and crystal structure (I tried to prepare manganese compounds from such a sample, and it did not react with HCl or even a mix of HCl/HNO3 or HCl/H2O2 even after extended contact at elevated temperature).

Alternative title? I dunno, try "Top Vines That Make This Planet Worth Living On" or something, that should get a few views.

Well, that seems way more economical at small scale than the more well known methods of dissolving gold. Using the ore itself is free. Are there additional complications that come up when you go to precipitate it out?

Anonymous

is the intro new? It looks cool AF

CodysLab

Yes, the more stuff you have dissolve that isn't gold the harder it is.

"Challenges with using acids to extract gold from ore." Was that few ppm for that sample or ppm per ton? Excellent video. No that you explained it is is so obvious. I mean explains where my gold went from one of my samples. I need to go back to that sample box. Thank you!

Cody is cyanide not affected by host rock? Must not be much because big mining companies use heap leaching. Thanks for sharing this video because I used Aqua Regia to try to extract gold from some ore I was not successful.

Pretty cool, but I was expecting from the working title that something was going to explode or break. Maybe it's my bias expecting boom-boom from YT. Maybe "doesn't work" instead of "can go wrong". Anyway, thanks.

CodysLab

Gold cyanation is far more robust, but can be thwarted by sulfides.
