Working with chlorine! Scary. I got a gold bar on e-bay placed it into HCl/H202 and it turned black. Not pure gold and they said Pure gold what a bunch of BS. Very interesting Cody.

I never did trust Ebay. You need to contact Ebay about the person Cody. You may save another from being ripped off by doing so. My sister got ahold of Ebay, lit into them about being ripped off by a seller. Ebay banned the seller for life. Save others from the same situation Daniel Bllake with his gold bar, it's just damn wrong to rip people off like this. 😡 BTW thank you for sharing this video, I love seeing these. I can't wait to see the slowmo reaction type stuff you do.

Looks good so far. Would it have been worth letting the material stand for a while with just HCl to leach more of the base metals, then replace with fresh HCl before adding CaOCl2? Might have simplified later purification steps. Also, that ebay seller probably didn't expect the buyer to have XRF equipment. You could possibly use this video in your claim to ebay.

Yeah DON'T buy electronic kits from E-bay. Lots of wasted money. Transistor that are used put in as brand new. Even got a expensive 200 in 1 completely defective due to a defective Flip flop chip. It said NEW.

Yes sitting in hcl would be a good idea but I find it’s more trouble than it’s worth, separating the platinum from the other metals is rather trivial.

E-bay a very powerful company`! They were selling herbally for f sakes Nux vomica which produces at 1 percent Stychnine. A very potent and painful deadly convusive poison. It has NO MEDICAL PROPERTIES these days it main use Gopher bait.

500 g could give you approx 1-2 percent Strychine around 5 to 10 g of it. 100 mg is the average Lethal dose but for children 15 mg and some people have been killed by only 30 mg of this stuff.

Hello Cody! Be careful when adding hypochlorite to HCl! We had a reactor explosion because the formation of Chlorine Dioxide when adding the calcium hypochlorite (chlorate salts have the same problem) to an acidic solution, a person almost died. ClO2 is very sensitive to light as well! I would use a Cl2 generator, adding Cl2 gas to HCl isn't a problem. Just drop HCl to TCCA, use a pressure equalizing addition funnel in a separated glass. Also, you can improve your extraction by after the burning use formic acid to reduce all PGM's to metallic state.
