Will shooting nitroglycerin set it off?

Shooting Glycerin first edit

Here is most of the video before I've done any brightness reduction, I'm also likely going to move some clips around add more to the end comparing this to my "fire in a vacuum chamber" video.

Playing some dangerous games in this one Cody, that was a lot of NG to have in a single vial in hand

Is it me, or is the image very bright in first part of the video?

CodysLab

yeah I had the iso speed on the camera set to 800 when i thought I had it on auto which probably would have set it to 100, I think I can fix it in post. I'll put out a corrected version later tonight for you to look at to see if it fixed the issue.

CodysLab

Yeah, I might remove the snapping sound as I closed the lid on it, made me cringe even though I knew it was unlikely to go off.

Anonymous

Oh shit, I cringed thinking of what that did to your fingers since you said OW

I'm so sorry for you getting hurt, but heck... it's a pity that your camera missed it ;)

CodysLab

I was just too distracted to hit the button in time, I only had about 1.5 seconds at the frame rate I was trying to record at.

I had no idea that stuff packed such a punch!

You should try a slingshot! Also, it's really bright, so it's hard to see much of the video.

I'm reminded of a video you did where you talked about how you never injure yourself in your experiments, only in weird ways like falling in your kitchen. I guess.... Achievement unlocked?

Is the highspeed camera not able to record more fps? The whole explosion seems to go off really really fast :( Also.. is your hand better?

Anonymous

Dude lucky you didn't end up with a knife in your face!!! I trust you know what you are doing but Safety First man I was actually concerned for your life. Great video 😂👍👍👆🤕

That was my initial thought after I saw his injury. Sure looked painful. That knife could have been sent almost anywhere. If it went straight through leather gloves, I doubt how much safety goggles would have done. Glad you still have all your fingers!

CodysLab

21K/s is the fastest it goes but I recorded at 6k/s to get more detail.

Really, really good demonstration! It's both elegant and funny.

At least the knife didn't cut off your magnetic field testing finger. Glad your ok and you used safety gloves. I wonder what happens if you put a small amount on the soles of your boots will it remove mud if you jump? Lol don't try that.

Kadah

A sound pressure activated switch would have been handy.

Awesome! How long does the residue last on the anvil, ie, if you hit the wet spots, (missed by the knife), a day later, would it go off, or does it evaporate or decompose more quickly?

Nile Red

Damn, man. Be careful with that. Good thing the blade didnt stick into your face!

Hey, Cody, please take care of the nitroglycerin. I tested a small amount of about 20-50mg similar stuff years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't have a thin aluminium foil to pack the stuff. That's why I packed it in a slightly thicker aluminium foil. The next 5 years I cut aluminum splinters out of my hand. Your knife blade could just as easily have gone down the throat.
