The big takeaway from last week's poll was that there's just as much interest in seeing what goes on behind the scenes as there is in the finished product! So this week we thought we'd make a special video about how scene assets are made for Changeling Tale.

Click above to check it out! Partly thanks to the new capture function offered by Clip Studio Paint, we were able to record this timelapse to show the process Wat and I use to illustrate and collaborate:

1. Initial Placeholder Asset: I mash together Google images to convey a basic sense of the scene and fill the space during the Alpha build phase.
2. Rough Sketch: Wat sketches a first pass of the scene for the Beta build phase.
3. Refined Sketch: Wat makes a cleaner sketch that closely represents the final image.*
4. Inks & Color Blocking: I attempt to read and ink Wat's sketch, and block out basic colors to give it volume in preparation for review.
5: Shape Adjustments: Wat uses Photoshop's liquify tool to fix any structural issues that stand out now that the visuals are clearer.
6. Colors, BG & Shading: I take the scene to completion.
7. Lighting Adjustments: Wat reviews the finished scene and makes final lighting and shape adjustments if necessary. It's good to have several sets of eyes, as well as different monitor outputs, to ensure the scene looks the best it can for everyone.

We hope the timelapse is insightful! The completed scene is attached in both regular and full resolution. Special thanks to Cheasy for the accompanying music!

And if you have any questions about our process, feel free to ask us anything in Discord or in the comments below!

*(Our apologies for the bouncing around in this segment! Photoshop doesn't have a native timelapse capture capability.)

outside of a little jankiness on the rough sketch part of the recording [I know Wat tends to start and stop while drawing often, even more so is that visible know with this recording :D] a nice show of how these CGs come together! I really like how you shade, LN!

Thanks Noc! The CSP timelapse feature natively records each stroke and sequences them in a seamless playback-- otherwise mine would probably be just as janky as Wat's, haha!
