Being larger than everyone else around you can be a lot of fun, but it also comes with its own set of challenges.

Earlier this year I was at a doctor appointment for a general checkup, a new General Practitioner I had not seen before. It was a multi-use facility with multiple doctors and had a vast waiting room. Unfortunately, none of the many chairs was one I could use, because they all had arms. Trying to squeeze a 76" waist into a chair designed for - at most - a 42" waist - is going to destroy the chair. I have broken arms off chairs before, it's actually quite easy to do at my size.

I couldn't stay standing for the twenty minutes or so it took the doctor to see me, so I looked around and sat down on an end table, which thankfully was a solid wood cube and not glass-topped or something easily breakable. It wasn't comfortable, but at least I was off my feet.

While I was sitting there a five-year old boy and his mother were wrapping up their appointment. The kid saw me, did a double-take, then walked over near me and just stared. He walked back to his mother, pulled on her arm and said in a loud voice, "Mommy! He's so big!". She glanced over and tried to shush him but he kept staring at me with his mouth open until his mother finished her business and they left the building.

The nurse waved me in and tried to take my vitals. The arm cuff didn't fit, so she had to use the thigh cuff on my upper arm. When you get to my size, the accuracy goes down so it's anyone's guess what my actual blood pressure is (higher than it should be, but not sky-high, thankfully). She asked me to stand on the scale - I had a feeling it wouldn't weigh me, and sure enough, Error soon flashed on the screen. I told her my weight from the last time I had weighed myself at home and she wrote it down.

I saw the doctor (he looked exasperated and gave me a speech about my weight), had my checkup, and afterwards I needed an Uber back home. I'm still looking for a car that fits me comfortably - if it's not my 6' 4" height, it's my 665 pound weight that gets in the way. Currently if I have to go somewhere, I either get a ride with a friend or I order an Uber or Lyft.

I ordered a ride on the app and when it arrived, I winced - it was a Honda Accord. It's not the smallest car out there, but it definitely isn't Bearhemoth-friendly, partly due to the size of the doors. I tried to get in the back seat first, but once I had my upper body in, I couldn't get my legs through the door. If I went in legs first, I couldn't get my torso all the way through the door.

I tried the front passenger seat - first I moved it all the way back, and then had the same issues. Half of me could fit in the car, but I couldn't maneuver the rest of me through the door. The whole situation was embarrassing. The driver (who was really cute and understanding so I was sad I had to send him on his way) refunded the call.

I immediately ordered an Uber XL, assuming that surely they'd send an SUV this time. They did, and I got in the back seat, and went home. Of course the Uber XL was much more expensive than the regular Uber since they are designed for six or more people, but the added cost is part of being a Bearhemoth!
