A little preface to this poll.
We are just weighing in our options for now.
We're not saying that we would straight away try our hand at Isometry but if the demand is high, we will definitely investigate.
Seeing our effects in 3D within Unreal makes us wish we could share this with you, it would give us more options as the top-down view is sometimes really restrictive to represent 'falling from the sky' effects (Sacred Flame was actually a good example of that ! 😆)

Ftr all of my maps are iso and your animations still work great with it

JB2A

I believe that is thanks to Wasp (Sequencer module) and Grape_Juice that worked out how to make the assets work in iso recently! 😍 Thanks for letting us know though!

ThatV

As long as it doesn't inhibit the creation of top-down ones, go for it!

Anonymous

If it will in any way take away time from more spells and features being animated, then I'd say it's not worth doing atm.

Anonymous

I would love the assets in 3D to use in Unity game development!

Anonymous

Since this seems to be aimed primarily at Foundry users who use the animations for TTRPGs, I really dont see the merit in isometric assets when there is no current system that can support them for TTRPGs

Anonymous

If it works with 3D Canvas - okay. But the focus should still be on top-down 2d.

Anonymous

There's actually a very active ISO TTRPG community on Foundry and mods that handle it exceptionally. :)

As far as I can tell, there is only a single module that does this and its only compatible version is foundry 0.7.9. Unless I am mistaken from the searching I have done.

JB2A

It wouldn't as far as I know. We've had a discussion with Ripper already about that and it's way more complicated than we originally thought. One reason for example is that it faces the camera so it would only look ok from one perspective which defeats the purpose ! However, there is indeed a big community using Grapejuice's module for isometry with outstanding results : https://gitlab.com/jesusafier/grape_juice-isometrics Obligatory Patreon link as well : https://www.patreon.com/foundry_grape_juice

The version compatible for current versions is behind a patreon wall, the free version is only for 0.7.9

Anonymous

That seems like a lot of patreons to sub too. Youd need all new assets, tokens, maps, ect... Any collection you have for 2D wouldnt work and if you did learn to make new maps it would way more time consuming. If this patreon goes down that niche thats fine, but Id probably peace out if I couldnt use half the stuff they start making.

Doc

It would be pretty neat and from what I saw in those 3D renders, the effects certainly do look cool from a different perspective - however, I personally only play top-down tabletop games, so I'd have basically no use for them. I'd much rather have that time spent on creating more awesome top-down effects that I can use in my campaigns for my players to enjoy.

This is where I'm at too. Even if it changes to a 80/20 split of isometric effects. As much as I love supporting JB2A, having less content that I'd use per release would feel a little meh.

Anonymous

It's fun and interesting but I probably won't use them for my games.

Anonymous

How about, finishing Top-Down spell effects first, before considering doing isometric for like 13% of your patrons?

Anonymous

No interest at all. Splitting the releases between isometric and top-down would just give me fewer toys to play with.

The 'falling from the sky' effect is handled as theatre of the mind. Much prefer 'top down' as all my maps are that way. I find Foundry isn't very user friendly in isometric.
