Good evening Patrons!

Thanks to everyone who answered our July Survey!

The most popular choice was ARMOURED RENEGADES! so for July we are getting Heretical!

Modern Post-Apocalypse was almost as popular and had 81% of you interested or very interested, so that will certainly feature soon.

Samurai had a more mixed response with 33% of you not particularly interested. It's still quite possible we will do it at some point (2/3rd of you were interested) but we won't be prioritising it.

The remaining results are presented at the end after the shiny pictures!

NEW PREVIEWS!

Both sizes of Automata will have a selection of chopping and slicing tools, ideal when subtlety is no longer a mission parameter!

There is nothing stopping you from mounting left and right versions of the minigun shown above on a bipedal exo-scale Automata, but for a bit more stability, we have prepared a 4 legged fire support platform!

I (Joel, Anvil Creative Director) usually find the time to paint 2 or 3 models per year, and here is my first one for 2020!

Printed at 50um layer height on our Form 3. Painted in about two hours using mostly drybrushing, washes and a few selective layer highlights.  I was trying to replicate scratched COR-TEN corrosion-resistant steel for most of the robotic structure. It is more orange in real life.

Survey Results Continued!

60% of you rated last month 5*, 33% 4*, and 6.7% 3*, so that's great feedback, thanks very much!

For Layout/Part orientation, 37% of you want us to stick with what we are currently doing, vs. 27% in favour of "possible to assemble" miniatures. So for now, we will stick with the current method which works well, and try to put together a tutorial showing how to assemble and manipulate STL files.

"Mostly/entirely conversion parts for some months", is a popular idea with 86% in favour! We will make sure though that even if we do some months with a focus on conversion parts, they will still have at least 2 actual figures.

"Just a Big Thing" is similarly a popular idea with 90% in favour if you include votes for the War Mammoth. Unfortunately, the War Mammoth did not get enough support to trample to the top of the schedule, but it will feature as a "big thing" poll option for sure!

Release at the Start of each Month

66% of you were in favour of a move to releasing on the 1st, with more people supporting the "mix of existing components" idea.

Our most likely plan is to put together an extra release which contains a mixture of existing components, new conversion parts, and some actual new character models. This should hopefully ensure the extra release is excellent value and has something useful for everyone!

----------------

Thanks for the individual feedback points, and to everyone for your ongoing support!

Keep an eye out on our social media channels for some upcoming turntable videos of the Automata models!

Thanks

Team Anvil

your best models are a welcome pack

Damn, kinda a shame about the more conversion and less actual models, I’ve loved the models so far, they’re so awesome I want to make an army with each one, maybe someday.

Thank you for your solid communication. That means a ton!

Disappointing results but the majority has spoken.

That is a shame about the Sci-fi Matchlock Ashigaru😔, I would've loved to see your interpretation! Nevertheless, the Automata look great!

Robots look great, cant wait to combine them with the greatcoats! By more conversion parts but only a couple of actual minis, do you mean that we will be given the parts to make our own characters on top of everything? the characters for the greatcoat release were great and unique and would be sad to lose that, unless we get similar parts to make custom ones. Very excited to see what you come up with for renegades!

Those Automata really look great (nice paint-job, too), looking forward to print a bunch and get them painted myself...

anvildigitalforge

To clarify, the idea with the conversion parts is to do an occasional month, max 3 per year. Most months will feature mostly miniatures!

anvildigitalforge

Majority rules is a somewhat imperfect way of doing things. Where possible we will always try to consider how to do things which provide a good result for everyone.

anvildigitalforge

Most months will still feature separate infantry parts plus some characters and relevant conversion parts. We will consider doing some months which are mostly conversion parts.

anvildigitalforge

Re-reading the post (which I have now edited to make clearer) - I meant that in the months which feature primarily conversion parts (ie. 2-3 sets per year tops) we will make sure we also include some characters. We are NOT switching to every month being mostly conversion parts! :)

My man we are midway 2020 and you painted your first one in this year now? Very good job at it, i thought too in a white/white'ish look with black mechanic parts :)

A bit sad to see that the Ashigaru didn't pull through (though the email exchange that actually led me to sign up for the Patreon in the first place made it sound like they'll come out in resin eventually. which is honestly the preferable option for me anyhow), but excited to see what the renegades will look like!

anvildigitalforge

We have actually started sculpts for part of that range already, we are sitting on them for now but they will appear at some point for sure :)

Hi i just discovered this patreon and i now really really want to make an army of killer robots for some reason. I wanted to ask, since i started backing today, do i still get the June release too ? (Choppa is nice, but who doesn't want more dakka)

anvildigitalforge

Advice to anyone considering starting a wargaming business - don't do it if you actually like having personal hobby time! I mostly enjoy the products we make through seeing all the cool stuff customers do with it!

anvildigitalforge

Hello, We are doing each months release and the end of each month, so the Automata is the June release :) Last months Trench stuff will be available separately at some point.

I'm a huge fan of the Automata - this is the kind of thing I've wanted to see for a while from *somebody*. Since (if?) these are going to be STL only releases (could be wrong, it's early and I haven't had my coffee yet...), could we see one printed on a Elegoo or Anycubic? A Form 3 is great, but not what most people are going to be using...

anvildigitalforge

There is obviously a quality different but honestly its not really noticeable once you paint them. I have an Ogre printed on both Form 3 and Photon. Ill post up a comparison. For optimum results with photon use max 30um layer thickness.

Anonymous

Thanks! I'd like to see that, as I'm curious about what 10x the $ gets you. 😁 This wasn't meant to sound derogatory, the output of a 'standard' home resin printer is pretty darn good. I'm just ignorant of the difference in output quality between those two levels of capability.

anvildigitalforge

Its not as much as you'd think for the price. There is a visible difference as you would expect but its not 10x better! A big advantage of the Form 3 though is the larger build area and better consistency and reliability.

These really remind me of the mechs from X-COM. Super excited to print some out!
