hey hey, i've nearly finished this large banner for the Museum of English Rural Life, they are having an exhibition about the commons and the enclosures n this piece i've been working on is gonna be printed up big and hung from the roof. here are some chunks from it, i havent finished colouring it but thought i'd share some bits. i wanted to make it as accessible as possible / like an entry point into thinking about these parts of history, but hopefully it doesnt tip over into feeling 'school-text-booky' hahaogod

i've been working with this amazing TCFU accredited seamstress in brunswick to develop some banners with trim n loops n wotnot:

they're pretty pretty imo, and pretty big, like 50cm x 90cm, rly nicely stitched n put together. i was thinking i cld give 1 away to one of youse, and another one to a new supporter who pledges in the next fortnight. to indicate u wanna be part of the draw, click 'like' on this post and i'll draw a name from a hat n post it out early next month.

here's another banner we made for the CFMEU's new lobby on Elizabeth street:

for this months Overland cartoon i'm working with Flat Out on a redux of this excellent old prison abolition cartoon by William Waltzman:

it's gonna be a small part of the 'Homes not Prisons' campaign against Daniel Andrews proposed 106 bed expansion of the Dame Phyllis Frost women's prison in Melbournes west. i will send the drawing through when its finished.

drew the above thing for the CFMEU in Western Australia, as part of their May Day celebrations this year. it's gonna be printed on the back of a shirt, which u might be able to get from here sometime, or on the day at the event in Perth. this is the rough composition sketch from early on, dunno if that kinda thing is interesting to see :

it seems as though every state outside of Victoria has a kick ass may day celebration (tho Bendigos is looking like a bit of a banger?!). maybe we will have a good'n here in melb this year we will see... wish i was gonna be in sydney for this tho meanwhile! a proper Green Ban to save Willow Grove with several unions uniting around the 'May 1 Movement' :

flyer graphic by fellow WAC member Sam Davis. if ur in sydney and able to attend u can rsvp here . i drew about sydneys 'May 1 Movement' last year, here are a few panels from that comic:

while we are on the topic, Mary Leunig mailed me this page of drawings last month as a reminder not to work too hard when i was talking about getting smashed by a string of deadlines:

those two series im working on are coming along, one defining some key labour terms and the other basically making unlicensed clipart out of classic slogans. u can see em here - i'll send the new ones through in another update here soon since this post is getting a bit long, but yeah u can have a look at the instagram meanwhile if u want https://www.instagram.com/ourmembersbeunlimited/

ok i might leave it there, dont forget to click 'like' on this post if u wanna go into the draw to win the opera house banner thing. u probably have to go to the Patreon website and log in proper to be able to click the heart button, sorry. if u know anyone who might wanna become a supporter and potentially win the other banner feel free to forward this email on to them.

i've also been meaning to say, pls dont see supporting this patreon as a life sentence or anything like that, im grateful for even a month of support, if u ever wanna wind up yr $$$ or drop to a lower level of support pls dont hesitate, i definitely don't take it as a given / i dont consider this a UBI hahaha (even tho i do get almost exactly the dole amount from it heh). with all that said, extreme gratitude to each of yas!!!!!!!

pls lemme know if there's anything i can do to support stuff that yr working on yrselves.

cheers

sam
