i'm drawing my first monthly cartoon for Overland shortly. which topic do u think i shld make it about?

1: As a result of the pandemic, people without homes in Melbourne have been put up in hotels for the last several months, with the state showing how easily they cld resolve the housing crisis if they chose to. But the state govt is now evicting people as we move away from the lockdown... There has been some amazing resistance to this already, and whistleblowey stuff. Not heaps of media attention tho. Cld be good to make something about how the housing crisis has been shown to be entirely optional.

- Jobseeker was dramatically slashed earlier this month. Cld draw something about the punitive approach of unemployment welfare in this country. And maybe also about how the govt literally engineer the economy to keep a certain % of the workforce unemployed intentionally at all times to put downward pressure on wages. Some kinda graphic that cld be enduring and hopefully useful into the future, not just about Jobseeker being slash.

-  The end of Trumps rule. small L liberals lusting for a return to a-political times or a return to nOrMaLcY / sum ppl thinking they can put their feet up now and forget about politics. I usually try not to draw about Trump / singled out leaders ("play the ball not the man") but i wld be up for marking his exit with a drawing if folks thought it cld be worthwhile

- something with a more historical bent, about how the Sydney Opera House’s final stages of construction were effectively carried out by a workers council. the union sacked the foreman and the workers made all the decisions themselves democratically. cld make a sort of emblematic celebration of this historical footnote.

if u guys are into voting on this kinda thing then i'll try do it every month. I think u have to log into Patreon to vote, but hopefully u can choose to just stay logged in from whatever browser u use so it's easier next time. otherwise they do have an app which is pretty neat. if not many ppl are into it then i might just take this as a one-off experiment. all good either way ofc!

cheers, thanks for everything

sam
