For me the art style of Indivisible was a love at first sight. I prefer games with rather stylized visuals than pixel art or 3D graphics and I feel like nowadays big game companies don't invest much into such type of games anymore.

This illustration was actually a redraw in some extent. It started as a fanart illustration for the anime Dororo but it didn't turned out well and I just scrapped the whole file a long time ago. Can't say why exactly. The composition of all characters and the lighting and shading, nothing came together. The sky was also originally shed in red sunset light. The only good thing which also took the most time was the background. I kept this for another purpose  but eventually decided to redraw some details to create an Indivisible artwork instead. The color palette and lighter surrounding fit the mood of the game way better in the end. Reusing assets of my old scrapped images is one of many ways for me to get over the frustration concerning an unsatisfying project from the past. It also makes you feel that no effort in vain.

The only thing which still bugs was the general tone of both characters which looks still too dark to me. It is also one of those situations were your judging and view became worse the more you look at this image. I couldn't wrap my head around this problem, but it was time to move on after all the long process.

By the way, one of my art mentors, who really had an impact on the improvement of my drawing techniques and productivity over the last years was Trent Keniuga. He and his art house company Aquatic Moon were hired by Lab Zero Games to do several mockup designs for Indivisible.
