I don't know if anyone has told you but the guy that starred in and directed the Shopper music video is a singer called DPR Ian! I think you would really enjoy his music and especially his music videos, they're very cinematic and he always incorporates a story. He's just so incredibly talented and deserves a lot more recognition for what he does!

The loves wins all music video. The popular opinion is that the box represents trying to get rid of people with disabilities or others. IU is supposed to be deaf. V is blind in one eye. That's why she covers up his eye at the end so he won't see what's going to happen to them. I also love the subtlety of IU takes care of him in the beginning. He's very shy like she's the one dragging him around by the hand. He walks behind her a lot of the time and then at the end he is the one that tries to protect her with the pipe but he can't and she still is one to after everything protect him and then the pile of clothes is like a lot of people have been through the same situation and you're right about the camcorder but it just also sees them as their perfect selfs Like they both hve got scars and are beat up but when you look through the camera they both are like pristine and even glowing and then the restaurant. They're being chased by these people that have masks over their face like their faceless nameless people like the internet or whatever that are always criticizing and trying to hurt people she even squeezes his arm three times with her hand, which is I love you in sign language I'm sure there's somebody else that'll comment that can explain it more clearly than I have

Mina

Yay Le Sserafim! My favorite girlgroup! They have two other eps and one repackage? album (unforgiven) and then they did a english single called Perfect night that was a collab with Overwatch! I hope you check them out more or ppl rec some performances or music. Also Yunjin has four self written solo songs and has done a few collabs and is rumored to be featuring on jhopes upcoming album. Glad you enjoyed listening to them. 😊

Mina

Also I loved Love Wins All so much ugh IU’s voice has so much emotion its beautiful and I cried bc of the mv like 3 times already such a heartbreaking story told in a short amount of time.

Mina

Also I think you would really love Enhypen’s music (not saying this just bc i love them but like i actually think you would vibe well with them lol) hope you check them out someday or someone recs something

Sal

so so so happy you checked these artists out! lsf's first tracks always serve as an album trailer so they're coupled with a video that kind of introduces what the concept of the album will be. they have 4 albums and a single, fearless is their debut album (at this point they had 6 members but a member was kicked out due to past school-bullying allegations (the allegations were proven false but korea takes these allegations very very seriously)), then they have antifragile (an ep), then unforgiven (it's a full album but i would say it's more of a repackaged album since although there's new songs, a good chunk of the songs are from the fearless and antifragile albums), then there's their english single called perfect night ( a collab for overwatch), and finally this ep!

ashleelei

YAY another twice reaction!! thank you so much for checking out their new EP and I am so glad you enjoy their music just as much as I do lol. Fun fact btw: Daniel seavey and Jonah Marais from Why Don't We actually wrote "I GOT YOU" for twice! my two worlds are colliding hahah

Sal

would love to see you check out some more twice! they have sooo many projects, 13 ep's, 7 studio albums, japanese albums, a nayeon solo album, a jihyo solo album, and a mina, sana, momo (japanese members) japanese album. i think twice have definitely cemented themselves in kpop history due to their music and performance, they have definitely improved vocally over the years and have undergone a sonic shift as they've matured. the girls have also renewed their contracts for 7 more years so i'm excited for what new music they have in store! i would recommend checking out their formula of love full album, their eyes wide open full album, their taste of love ep, or their feel special ep!

jennptx

I've been listening to a playlist I made for a few days that starts with Holssi - Easy - Shopper - I Got You, so I was SO HAPPY to sit down and watch these reactions. I'm going to be trying so hard to get to one of IU's concerts in the U.S. this summer. Her Suchwita with SUGA is a fun watch (and his appearance on her show Palette was, too). I could be wrong, but it seems like EPs are much more common in Korea than here in the States, and they come out more frequently (in IU's 16-year career, she's done like a handful of full-length albums, two albums where she remakes older Korean songs, and lots of EPs, singles, and collabs). And I don't think you're just being positive! Since I started listening to Korean music in 2020, it's like hearing treasure after treasure, both with new music and with older songs that I'm discovering. And the vast majority is just GOOD. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your reactions. I'm rooting hard for all these women to gain more fans!

Kritika

I am so happy you got to checkout more from IU. She is such a beautiful artist. Love wins all had me bawling the first time when I watched it, but the other tracks are so good as well. She has got such a wide range. On a side note - Would love for you to check out Seventeen! It's been a while :D As always, thank you!

star

Oh i can definitely recommend Lesserafims album Unforgiven!!

Alix Drifty

I can't remember now if anyone has ever put in a custom request for DPR Ian - but he's the fellow who is costarring in and directed IU's Shopper MV. He's an amazing musician/director/editor who always has phenominal visuals in his MVs. His MVs explore his experiences with bipolar and DID through a kind of fantasy-storytelling-lens. Love this reaction! I'm so glad you decided to check out these projects :)

Nick

Le sserafim's previous albums are definitely worth checking out, Fearless EP is their most cohesive, while Antifragile EP and the Unforgiven full album are definitely more fun! With Twice, the Formula of Love full album is a must listen but their EPs Taste of Love and Feel Special are probably their best bodies of work imo. And since you liked the simplicity of Easy and you also said your favorite from With You-th was Rush, I would definitely recommend checking out Newjeans. They're from hype labels as well and along with le sserafim they're really extremely popular rn. They have a nice r&b bedroom pop sound that i think you'd enjoy.

elisa paci

so glad you checked out iu's ep!! hyein, the singer featured in shhh, is actually a member of a kpop girl group named newjeans. she's only 15 years old but she has an incredible voice. iu was very impressed with her talent after meeting her and decided to feature her on her album to represent the newer generation of female singers in korea. newjeans is one of the biggest girl groups in the world right now, they dominated korean charts the past two years and were just awarded billboard's women in music group of the year award. i hope you check them out even if it's not a reaction, their music is so good!

dom

It was such a good time watching your reaction! I recommend Jihyo's EP Zone from last year since you liked her voice. Personally, I think it's a no-skip album.

chimelle6

Oh! Very pumped for this! But had to say I love your shirt!

K

there's Hyein from Newjeans in IU's "Shh'! you should listen to some newjeans songs like "hype boy" "super shy" "get up" "cool with you" and "ditto", i started listening to them last year because of jungkook, he was always singing their songs during his live shows lol (especially ditto since it's one of his fav songs ever) and these girls are soooo talented, i think they have the potential to become one of the biggest girlgroup in the next years

chimelle6

I think you described it really well! I was just going to add that to me the box represents society in general possibly the internet with its almost transparent look … like its there but not completely solid like how the internet is a real thing that highly impacts people but isn’t really tangible at the same time. I think it’s in the shape of a box though because society puts you in a box and if you don’t fit in that box you get cast to the side. In this world that is just represented more tangibly and the people are truly removed from the world. The pile of clothes are probably a nod to artist Christian Boltanski who put a large pile of clothes (30 ft tall) as one of his pieces called Personne. The clothes represent the people who are no longer with us but it’s one last thing remain to represent them and the like they lived along with feelings of survivors guilt, etc. It was also featured in BTS Spring Day. IU has talked about society’s unkindness to certain people before. She has had multiple friends commit suicide due to the terrible things said about them on the internet and she grew up in poverty. I think those two things in poverty she works really hard to try and make better. And why she chose in such a terribly sad story to focus on love winning all. Like we can’t necessarily stop all this terrible stuff from happening but we can choose what to listen to and to focus on loving each other. I think she probably chose Tae because they’re friends and wanted to give him an opportunity to act before starting service lol but also because of how terribly bts was attacked on the internet for so many years and what they’re messages have been. Fits well.

since you love jihyo, you should react to her solo album ZONE ! there's literally no skips on there, and amazing collabs. she also wrote almost all the b-sides (5 out of 6) ! i guarantee it'll be one of your favorites.

jennptx

I kept thinking throughout that Selena was perfect for all these talented, ambitious, strong women!

jennptx

Should you decide to do a backwards journey through IU's discography, she had an EP called Pieces in winter 2021 that accompanied a documentary with songs that I think were written and unreleased when she was younger. Before that was the LILAC album from spring of 2021 with 10 songs. You've heard Lilac and My Sea, but I don't think any of the others. This album won Album of the Year at Melon Music Awards that year. And it's when I really took notice of IU and started falling down that rabbit hole! I think the big gap between albums is partly due to acting jobs. I know she was filming a new drama series that will be coming out sometime soon (I hope!) and that took more than a year. And she'll be doing a world tour starting in March that lasts through summer.

and one more note about IU's Shh.. mv, because I've been trying to wrap my head around it. In the song, IU sings the first verse. The second verse is Hyein from Newjeans, who I think sort of represents the next generation of women. I had to look up the third singer and the narrator, though. The third verse is a singer named Joe Won Sun who is in her 50s, so a generation before IU? And the narrator is singer Patti Kim, who is 85! That alone makes the song so interesting to me. Then the added depth of the mv with characters just named "she" and "her". There's also an awning that says "Mobius Strip" on it, and when I looked up the meaning of that, my head basically exploded. I spent yesterday with my mom, my daughter, and my granddaughter, and we talk often about how meaningful it is to have four generations of mothers and daughters together. While my brain is still working on meaning, my soul understands it as a deep, complex connection between women that can include misunderstanding or conflict, but still at its core a deep love and respect. I'd also been wrestling with the "not about F" and "not about L" lines, and wondering what the F and L could mean? I saw some say it could be fear or love. When the song gets to the bridge and mentions women who remain an enigma, I feel like I've almost grasped the meaning, but I think it's something I can feel but never quite put into words 🤯

Sara

loved this reaction! as a woman and a daughter, IU's "Shh" definitely made me a little emotional. i personally think its not just about a mother/daughter relationship, but about the relationships between generations of women throughout time. The lyrics are somewhat difficult to dissect, but i think that reflects how enigmatic that relationship/feeling between women is. Also the song features 4 generations of female Korean singers, IU being 30 years old, Hyein (the first featured artist) being 15, Joe Wonsun (the second featured artist) being 51, and Patti Kim (the special narrator) being 85, which I think is really cool! I saw many people saying that the song reminds them of the quote "As a woman I have so much empathy for my mother, but as a daughter I have so much anger." I think that describes it pretty well. Would love to see you react to more IU in the future! I would personally recommend her Palette album and LILAC album.

okay here comes a *little* background on le sserafim you didn't ask for :) the group consists out of 5 members: sakura (japanese), chaewon (korean), yunjin (korean-american), kazuha (japanese) and eunchae (korean). in their opening tracks they always do a narration in all 3 languages and it reveals the themes the album will touch upon. the opening track is also used for their album trailer which are simply cinematic masterpieces you should definitely check out whenever you find some time. their previous 3 albums formed a trilogy and all title tracks were very confident and bold. we are FEARLESS, ANTIFRAGILE and UNFORGIVEN. for this album they decided it was time to let us in on their anxieties and insecurities because behind the scenes they aren't always that strong or confident. easy (the song) imo talks about how people often discredit the hard work they put into their performances because we only see the flawless and perfect end product when they finally hit the stage but it's only because of their hard work and dedication that it looks that easy. they make it looks easy. swan song is by far the most vulnerable track on the album. a swan per definition comes across very elegant and they seemingly float on water but if you could see underneath the water you'd see that a swan is actually constantly swimming really hard and trampling its feet. the lyrics to this song are really sad. smarter definitely is the smash hit from the album! it's doing big numbers on spotify too. and lastly, we got so much! it's a song dedicated to the fans :') the fandom name is 'fearnot' which in korean sounds like 'piona' meaning "to bloom" so i always love when they write lyrics about "blooming like flowers" or something related because it's talking about how the fans and le sserafim will continue to bloom together in the future. now ever since le sserafim has been getting more popular and especially since the release of this album le sserafim has been receiving LOADS of hate. i think from the get go they received backlash because they come from source music a label under hybe (which makes them automatically be an enemy to some people because they're related to bts in some way, shape or form), they don't have a set sound like some other groups in kpop do because their concept is so heavily based off "stepping fearlessly into the future regardless of how other people view them" which means all songs and stories are written about their own personal experiences and feelings. people felt like this comeback fell flat in comparison to their other more upbeat releases but i guess that's just personal preference? besides that, they are getting shit on by a lot of people and stuff gets nitpicked for no other reason then them getting more successful i feel like... so some songs couldn't have come at a better time because it feels like a direct response to the hate they're currently getting. anyways, concluding this whole entire essay by saying thank you SO much for reacting to them!!! i love them so much so hopefully you'd be willing to react to them in the future as well 🤍

chimelle6

Thank you for this post! I have actively listened and watched all of their releases, but haven't looked into more detail about le sserafim. I learned quite a few things that make me like them even more! :)

ulrike

omg i love that! they really are so great :') great personalities, great talent and they have the sweetest relationship with each other! all girls have writing credits on this album too! yunjin, kazuha, sakura and chaewon for swan song, yunjin for smart, and yunjin and eunchae for we got so much

chimelle6

Shooting my shot for Newjeans, because I really think you might enjoy them! Some of what you were commenting on for le sserafim are reasons I feel like your would like Newjeans so much (probably my two favorite gg currently)! You could pretty easily do their entire discography in one video, because they only have mini albums currently and many songs are on the shorter side. It can be a little confusing looking at their discography, but it would just be (this is how it presents on spotify): - NewJeans 1st EP 'New Jeans' - 4 songs - NewJeans 'OMG' - 2 songs - NewJeans 2nd EP 'Get Up' - 6 songs (There is a remix EP of this album called NJWMX that really changes up the feeling of the songs. Maybe worth a listen at some point. I like the originals more, but still find these remixes interesting.) Just to finish out the discography if interested here are the misc. type songs: Commercial: - Zero - there is an original version then a J.I.D Remix, they're pretty similar. These songs were done for Coke Zero, but honestly a bop in my opinion. Feature: - Be Who You Are (Real Magic) - this is a Jon Batiste song from his most recent album that they feature on, such an uplifting song. Some OST songs they did, very different from their normal work.: - A Time Called You - GODS - NewJeans X MY DEMON And that is it so far. I do think their mvs are pretty unique. If you were to watch a couple I think I would recommend Ditto (there is a side A and side B which together paint more of the story which is fun in my opinion, but you could just watch one for the vibes and not get too wrapped up in the story?), OMG, and ETA or Super Shy for a more typically dance type mv style?? Idk I like them all but those might give a good overall feel?

chimelle6

I'm definitely here for any reactions to le sserafim, IU, or Twice! You could definitely catch up on le sserafim's discography in one sitting. IU and Twice are definitely much more extensive. IU debuted in 2008 and Twice in 2015. I have listened to a good portion of both of their discographies, but not in any particular order or as full projects. I would love to learn more about them with you. Especially IU. She is truly SK's princess and the more I learn about her the more I love her. Oh! The tweety bird thing, IU has been using tweety bird as her profile picture for years.

Miss._Kriss

I definitely would recommend DPR IAN :) His music never fails to make me wanna scream with joy ❤️

So happy you got a bit more into TWICE and hope you'll continue to explore their music in the future! They're one of my favorite groups ever and the way they do pop is completely unmatched for me
