OH MY GOD ITS HERE

hosu11

I think I've read this somewhere before but I really connected with this interpretation. Kenny's "Everyone had to be drunk on something to keep pushing on. Everyone was a slave to something." - That for me is one of the main factors of Levi's decision to choose Armin. Once Erwin would find the answers he was looking for because that was his ultimate goal, he may lose the motivation to continue fighting and the reality of being a commander would crush him. On the other hand, Armin's dream to see the outside world wouldn't end once they reached the sea and he would fight on. Also another factor is realizing the truth about Erwin being "the devil" leading people towards their death. Simply, Erwin deserves to rest after what he's been through. Hopefully it makes sense!!!!

these 3 episodes are peak aot

Lo

no matter how many times i watch it, Erwin’s speech in Episode 16 makes me cry

I have been waiting so impatiently for this 😭😁

So it seems to me like Erwin was subconsciously reliving a memory of raising his hand in class and asking that question, and it made Levi remember that Erwin had a simple dream but was forced to abandon it to help the scouts. Levi didn’t want to force Erwin back into what he sees as a punishing life. Also I do think he recognizes Armin’s value to humanity! Which is why he ultimately makes that choice

Hey Mike, please watch just a short clip of Erwin's speech in Japanese. His voice acting there is incredible. Not throwing shade to the English one, but some details of his speech is also different and I like the Japanese version.

I WAS WAITING FOR THIS EPISODE, FINALLY!! Definitely one of the best episodes of the whole show

also, just finishing the whole vid now, Levi chose Erwin because humanity needed Erwin to survive, and even though he had dreams of his own, he turned into a devil for the sake of humanity's survival. Bringing him back into the world is just prolonging his suffering. Erwin said himself, many times, he thought that dying would've been much easier, but the burden and responsibility left by his dead comrades is so heavy that Levi decided that it was time for him to rest. Not only that, he sees the same kind-of spirit or mentality of Erwin in Armin. Him choosing Armin is sort of placing his trust in the next generation, and believing in the future. (At least that's my interpretation.)

This arc and the next are my two faves of the series!

The answer to your question about Levi choosing Armin over Erwin is this: He remembered Kenny talking about all people being drunk on their dreams, dreams that consume them and obsess them and in the end destroy them (that was what Kenny said). Erwin is a victim of his dream as Kenny was. But Armin isn't. He pursues his dream without the destructive obsession. That is what made Levi change his mind.

im so excited for you to finish the rest of this season!!

I cried once again watching this and I've watched this episode like 5 times or more. I love what you said about Armin because a lot of people hate his character just because he shows his emotions and because his strength doesn't manifest physically. I think he is so underrated, he's a genius and has so much heart, that's what makes him special and what brings hope amongst so much despair.
