I love experiencing this show again with you. I haven’t rewatched it since it came out, and I’m noticing so many things I didn’t the first time, which just makes it even better. Also, the actor who plays Benny was Jojen in GOT!

The actor of Benny, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, is the voice actor of Ferb in the cartoon series Phineas and Ferb.... but I doubt you meant that...

As many have mentioned, Benny's actor is in GOT as Jojen- he was also on the cover of the chess magazine last ep and you called him Harry Styles and it gave me such a laugh

She is 15 when she first meets Townes in 1963. When she meets him again at the U.S opens in las vegas it is 1966, hence she is 18. Still feels a bit weird with Townes though lol

Just wanted to clarify that Beth did lose to Benny, not draw. They reason the shared the title and prize money was because of how points are distributes in chess tournaments. You get 0 points for losing, 0.5 points for a draw and 1 point for winning. So when Beth mentions Benny having 2 draws going into their match, and her having all wins that means- that lets say they played 14 games total: Beth went into their match with 14 points, whilst Benny only had 13 (12 wins + 2 draws). Thus Beth would have won the tournament if they had drawn (14.5 point to 13.5 points) but because she lost and got 0 points, they both ended on 14 points and had to split the winnings.

Yes, which is why Beth is bitter after bc she could tell, and roger takes his shirt off to kinda ”mark his territory”. I assume Townes is bi and roger could tell he was being too flirty with Beth
