Ok some things I can think about at the top of my head: 140503 at Dawn: The number is a date (May 3th, 2014) I don't know the importance behind this date, or if it was just the day, and time (dawn) he wrote this song Tony Montana: Yoongi is a huge fan of Scarface and I personally think he can relate to Al Pacino's character (Tony Montana). At least from what we've glimpsed on his lyrics. Also, there's a version of this song feat. Jimin where the lyrics for Jimin's part were changed. This version used to be only on soundcloud but it's now on the 3rd cd of Proof (the one only released physically). Yoongi has been suggesting for Jimin to be on his concert to do Tony Montana, so I assume we can expect it on the setlist and I'll be hoping to see a live transmission of Seoul's concert in case Jimin actually makes an appearance. So Far Away: One of my absolute favorites, and there's also a version with Jin and Jungkook that makes it so heavenly to listen to. That one is only on soundcloud. Interlude Set me free: This is the song for which Jimin added "pt2" to his own Set me Free. Even if they're not really connected, he thought the title was fitting and talked to Yoongi about it so he could make it pt2. Burn it: well this is more about Max. They collabed in one of Max's songs (Blueberry eyes). So this is their back and forth collab. Please everyone feel free to correct me if I got any of these wrong. And Michael, I hope you have an amazing time at the concert!!

fun fact rm spoiled what do you think like 4 years before it got released lol. i hope someone requests the tony montana feat jimin live performance someday or they perform it on tour and you see that. d-2 is so phenomenal dear my friend fucked me up so badly it’s been three years and i still cant really listen to it…out there somewhere is a jungkook singing guide version of that btw if you wanna look it up and cry over the collab we didn’t get like i did. and i loved thisss im so excited for d-day

Thanks! I barely passed but I think the rest of the class did the same. It’s an exam that the state puts on to see if you’re where you should be at at this point to pass the NCLEX. 😬 I really need to step up my game over the next year.

i already know all the songs from both mixtapes by heart and what they each mean and represent whenever i listen in my own time - but spending over an hour listening with you fully immersed in the lyrics again and hearing you reinterpret the lines made me sob uncontrollably over these songs for the first time in awhile; it just full blown reminded me why i feel most emotionally connected to him

Max and Suga have another song called Blueberry Eyes that’s also good. I was watching the Bangtan Bomb of Hobi’s military enlistment and the stoic look on Yoongi just broke me. The man who saves all of his emotions for his songs, I kept thinking he went home and started writing another song. I think D-Day is going to have a profound effect on me. Did you see the MV teaser? OMG! Thank you!

so far away was my favorite song from his first album and personally i prefer the version with jk and jin a lil bit more bcs of the adlibs but suran also did a beautiful job! my favorite song from d-2 would have to be dear my friend, it’s so heartbreakingly beautiful i just love how honest and raw he is with his music. but if i had to choose my all time favorite song from yoongi it would be first love which is part of the bts wings album, i love that song so much. i love all the members solo music but yoongi’s holds a special place for me :)

I still cannot believe d-2 has been around for almost three years now but it still hits as hard as it did when it first came out... d-day is going to be an experience (also, so happy for you to get the chance to go to the concert! would love to hear your thoughts after)

I am also looking forward to D-Day so much! Yoongi has done quite a bit of promotion ahead of time (I'm guessing because he's going straight to the tour) where he talks about his thoughts and feelings behind all the albums. I recommend the Disney+ interviews and his appearance on IU's Palette (where they sing eight and People Pt. 2 live--and he does People live as well. The performances are impeccable). I am desperately hoping for a livestream of one of the concerts, and SO EXCITED for you that you'll be at the first show. I know it will be an amazing experience, and I can't wait for you to share about it! I'll be manifesting live performances of Tony Montana and Burn It for you 🔥🔥🔥

An interesting fact about Dear My Friend: the lyrics at the beginning of the second verse are almost identical to Suga's lyrics in Spring Day, which he said he wrote about "losing old friends". Also the couple seconds of choir singing at the end is very similar to the ending of Spring Day. The fact that he wrote such a sad verse for Spring Day in 2016 and wrote about the same person to close out his mixtape in 2020, I think just shows how powerful this "break-up" was to him. I wonder if seeing someone, who he cared so much about, who once had the same dreams and same history as him, turning out so differently has been a big source of his drive/passion.

yess DIAL 6137's videos!! they have lyric videos for almost bts' entire discography AND the translations are from doolset coz they take their time with the videos. i love that channel so much.

The line you loved “giving up decisively also takes courage” was first heard by Army through a radio show Yoongi hosts called Kkul FM where he gives advice to listeners. I bawled so fcking hard when I first read the entire thing he said: “I don’t know what circumstances you were in, but I think you must have had tremendous courage. Giving something up decisively takes lots of courage. And, you’ve worked hard.” I want to note that Yoongi has mentioned wanting to get a degree in psychological counselling—it shows through his songs and his words how empathetic he is

in regards to military service, the boys were constantly getting harassed by kpop stans and korean media saying they were old (past the maximum age for enlistment) and trying to get out of their mandatory enlistment. however, the korean government were also stringing the boys along for years saying 'oh we'll take a look into whether or not exemption is possible'. in korea, people who've done extraordinary things like won an olympic medal or brough a lot of wealth or value to (spreading) korean culture usually get exempted. bts are the only idol group and also the youngest ever recipients of the order of cultural merit (usually only received by those who have been in the industry a long long long time, bts were 5 years into their career and jungkook was only 21). this, along with the fact that they bring 5 billion usd to sk's economy each year, armys felt it was unfair that an artist of their calibre were being strung along with will they won't theys by the govt exemption when people who have done far far less have been exempted without question. the boys also got a lot of hate when it was released by the press that several kpop companies met with the govt to discuss possible exemptions for their idols/groups. people thought they were trying to get out of something that the sk general public believe is an honour. however, it then came out that the companies that had that meeting included some smaller ones and then the big three (jyp, sm and yg). bighit had no awareness and was not present at all, so basically all these companies were using bts' name to try and get exemptions for their idols without care for whatever harm they were causing bts' reputation. finally, this year the boys said enough is enough and decided they would go on their own terms and wouldn't allow the govt or anyone else to hang this over their heads for the rest of their careers. once they're out, they can do whatever tf they want without fear of 'well i can't say/do this because the govt are still considering exemption'.

Yeah, and they never said that they weren’t going to go. They have mentioned it through a few different songs. Jin, being the oldest, has been asked in interviews on a few occasions about going and he always said that he will go when called. Until things got so ridiculous with people speculating and he would just say something along the lines of ‘the company is handling that’. The extension that Jin did (and Yoongi/suga though Jin took the brunt of people speculating) get was offered to him. They never asked for any special treatment. The sk government even sent out polls to the general public asking if they thought they should be exempt and it became this huge thing with with reports on the news and people arguing about it and stuff when bts never even said they weren’t going. They were supposed to go right after their mots7 tour but with covid they kept hope they would be able to go on a tour prior to going in. In their announcement of doing solo work they weren’t allowed to talk about enlistment yet but suga/Yoongi hinted at wishing they had already gone in so they would all be back together now, but obviously covid was unpredictable and they didn’t realize it would take so long. A whole mess. 🙄

The lyric videos are very of in most if these. I truly recommend looking at dool set's translations of bts and bts solo work lyrics because they explain some nuances with asterisks attached to them and overall the translation is A++. This sucks because the meaning of the songs in the videos u watched got distorted because pronouns were used where there wasnt any or just plain switched around😭 and the lyrics are just not translated very well.

He always looks at doolset after the reactions. I agree there is a bit missed with lyric videos but he has said its hard to do reactions with doolset, but he definitely knows the site and has looked lyrics up there!
