Paired these because they seem to have been equally requested :) (Ethel starts @ 1:38:16)

ALSO*- I see the few messages/comments about the older videos not being available. looks like everything before November of last year. I'm working on getting them all up, it might take a few days, as I have to re-upload one by one. They will all go up a bit at a time you will notice. Sorry for any inconvenience! But I am on it! <3

Just watched for stick season, so glad you did that album!! I love it so much, the amount of tears i’ve shed over noah’s music is insane. his writing is so beautiful and relatable, it’s quickly become one of my favourite albums. glad you loved it 💛

onlyastarion

i need to see you react to the whole story lol, and then like re-react to preachers daughter bc it is CRAZY how much one can then understand on a second watch and understanding the whole story.

Thank you so much for reacting to Preacher’s Daughter! 😊 It was my favorite album of 2022. Btw, Ethel Cain is a fictional character made up by Hayden. She’s clarified that Ethel’s story is not her own but is, in some ways, inspired by her experiences. (To be clear, Hayden is actually a trans woman and did indeed write and produce the entire album herself.) Also, this album will be the first of a trilogy. Hayden’s next album will tell the story of Ethel’s mother. You can read up on each track for more details, but here’s the “about” section from each song on Genius that correctly explains the storyline: Family Tree (Intro) sets the stage for the 76 minute epic that is Preacher’s Daughter. Over 13 tracks we learn the story of Ethel Cain. Set in 1991, the album details the character’s troubled relationship with religion, her old flame, her father (the titular preacher, a beloved member of the community even 10 years after his death), and her eventual kidnapping and murder. American Teenager: The third and final single from Ethel Cain’s debut album, Preacher’s Daughter. Ethel (aka Hayden Anhedonia) said of the song in a statement with Pitchfork: “Growing up I was surrounded by visions of NASCAR, rock’n’roll, and being the one who would change everything,” Cain said in a statement. “They make you think it’s all achievable and that if nothing else, you should at least die trying. What they don’t tell you is that you need your neighbor more than your country needs you. I wrote this song as an expression of my frustration with all the things the ‘American Teenager’ is supposed to be but never had any real chance of becoming.” A House In Nebraska: Ethel thinks of her ex-lover, Willoughby Tucker, who left town before the events of the album. She remembers the good times they shared and longs for him to come back home. She visits the abandoned house they would spend time in, imagining it was their own, somewhere far away from their hometown of Shady Grove, Alabama. Western Nights: Western Nights tells the story of Ethel and her new man, Logan Phelps. Logan is less than kind, at times violent, but Ethel finds herself hopelessly in love with him despite his faults. Family Tree: After the death of her boyfriend Logan in a police shootout following a bank robbery, Ethel finds herself on the run from the cops. Things get worse when she discovers a disturbing family secret. Hard Times: Closing out Act One of the album, Hard Times sees Ethel reflecting on the sexual abuse she endured from her father when she was a child, and the complicated feelings she has in regards to him. Thoroughfare: Act Two of the album begins with Thoroughfare. Ethel, having run away from home, meets charming Isaiah, who offers her a ride. Together, they drive from Texas to California. Over the course of their trip, they find themselves attracted to one another. Gibson Girl: After Ethel arrives in California with Isaiah, he begins to pimp her out in the back of strip clubs and feed her drugs on the regular. Ethel begins to lose sense of reality. The title refers to Charles Dana Gibson and the women he famously drew, often considered the pinnacle of American beauty standards. Ptolomaea: Under the influence of Isaiah’s drugs, Ethel begins to hallucinate. She confronts the darkness. The song name is inspired from Alighieri’s Divine Comedy [specifically Dante’s Inferno] Ptolemea, named after Ptolemy, is a circle of Hell in which the traitorous reside. Maybe this is a reference to Ethel abandoning her family and faith – only to be met with a wrath far worse. August Underground: Ethel wastes away in the attic of an abandoned shack in the woods of northern California. As Isaiah reveals his truest nature, she accepts her fate and faces the end. The title is a reference to the infamous snuff film of the same name. Televangelism: Ethel’s death and ascension to Heaven is portrayed through piano and ambient noise. Sun Bleached Flies: In Heaven, Ethel makes peace with her death, and reflects on her life, her family, and the man she never stopped loving, Willoughby. Strangers: Murdered and cannibalized by Isaiah, Ethel says her final goodbye to her mother from beyond the grave.

ahhhhhh!! i've been hoping and waiting for stick season and so glad you checked it out and enjoyed it!!! think i can confidently say it is not only my most streamed album of all time but also my favourite album period

Mya

I think I heard Noah Kahan say in an interview that stick season is just when the weather gets cold and all the leave fall off.

Portia Crain

Aww beautiful baby

Jayde Ritchey

Really enjoyed listening to both of these albums and hearing your thoughts. I have been obsessed with Noah Kahan, and some of your favourites off of Stick Season are also some of mine! Orange Juice is absolutely gutting. Hayden's voice is gorgeous! The character of Ethel and the story of this album is a bit dark for my taste, but I will be downloading a few of the tracks anyway even though I'm not sure I have the fortitude to listen to the album all the way through again. Thank you for the upload, Michael!

cass

Megan 🇵🇸

Both of my top 2 projects of last year in one video?? I have been blessed today thank you Mike!!

idk if this is the right place for leaving suggestions so feel free to ignore this comment, but i think you’d really love Arcane!! it’s on Netflix, probably one of the best shows i’ve ever watched. and it kinda gives me ATLA vibes! everything from story and characters to soundtrack to animation is so outstanding. i’d love a reaction but if anything you should watch it in your own time (if you haven’t already) 😊 anyways now i’ll enjoy these album reactions

Mariana

That 9th track from Preacher's Daughter will haunt me forever. Loved these albums! Very different but both so good ✨

Julie

Hello, I wanted to warn you that your videos uploaded on vimeo are not available anymore for some reason and I became a Patreon a month ago so I can’t finish the game of thrones reactions 😢

Michael Beveraggi

Hi Nat! Arcane will def be in an anime poll when we are done with the current one! I've heard incredible things!

Katie

So happy you loved Stick Season! Such an amazing album front to back!!

Julie

Thank you so much ! Can’t wait to continue the reactions 💜

For orange juice I interpreted it as the person got into a really bad car accident and they were fine but the other people weren’t and that is what triggered their drinking problem and caused them to run away. Also you should check out his previous projects too!!

Bailey Fay

Noah’s music completely changed my life. I love a lot of artists but his music just does something to me that no one else’s does.

Leah Goodman

I’m so happy you finally listened to Stick Season! I’ve been checking the Patreon quite often hoping you’d react to Noah Kahan as I knew you’d love his music and in particular his lyricism - I love the connection you made to Taylor and I completely agree. Such an incredible talent. Thank you for deep diving into the lyrics like you always do. I loved the moment in Orange Juice where you just got it. Such a powerful song. One of my absolute favorite albums from last year.

Allie

Noah’s first album Busyhead is elite, definitely one of my favorite albums and you absolutely need to check it out

Lexsi (canyonlwt28)

not really sure how requests work anymore but u should really do ivory by omar apollo. it’s so good. omar is definitely coming up and going to be super successful

Lily

Man, I really enjoyed your Stick Season reaction! It really hit me unexpectedly in the feels last year when I listened for the first time. I think you would really like the artist Matt Maeson, if you've never listened to him. His debut album Bank on the Funeral is on par with Stick Season for me. Even if you don't do a reaction to it, it's an album that is worth listening to if you like deep lyrics, fantastic singing, and great hooks. He also has a stripped album version of Bank on the Funeral as well, which is arguably even better.

Kerry

you should check out ethel's EP's too! inbred is criminally underrated and crush will always be my fave song of hers

Kerry

and the music videos for american teenager and crush perfectly showcase the aesthetics of ethel and her music, it is just so perfect

ipsssen

Wow. Listening to stick season I feel like I could almost see the end of a full relationship and what gets left behind in such a clear succinct way. What great songwriting

ipsssen

And some of the lyrics I was interpreting so differently from you and then to hear your perspective too…that’s what good writing does - conveys the feeling and the story by revealing different shades from different angles

Aubrey

I absolutely adore Noah Kahan and his music and I’m not sure how I missed this video when you put it out, but I’m so happy I found it! The way he’s so open and honest in all of his work hits hard. And if you see this, thank you for being so open and vulnerable in your videos, we appreciate it!
