Please say April fools I beg 😭😭😭

Lucille

I struggled with this one too 🥲. Still looking forward to your thoughts!

im glad im not the only one that was unsettled by the visuals LMAO also edit bc I got to evil I think the production makes alot of sense - it's suppressed when she's speaking abt the relationship and how it made her feel and then opens up more when she talks abt how she's done protecting him - I could be completely wrong though

Samantha

I love Mel, I haven't listened to this album cause I was waiting for your upload to react along, I'm nervous now by your description 🫠 Ive only heard Death when she released it as a single, and its different but I did not mind it. I will say it took a few listens tho... Might have to start this video after work tonight, hopefully, it doesn't disappoint me as much as it sounds like it did u lol.

Kerry

I haven’t listened to this album, same as samantha because I was waiting to see if you would upload it lol and I’m so scared to listen😬 I was the biggest fan of crybaby and that concept and I also loved k-12 so it’s making me nervous to listen to this w all the bad reviews🥲

Meg

i haven’t listened yet, but i will say the visuals i saw online of the vinyl gatefold design, put me off immediately it was very jarring

Michael Beveraggi

I really liked death & the first couple tracks! Bit of a downward spiral I guess but I hope you enjoy it! 😵‍💫

Michael Beveraggi

Oh I hadn’t seen any reviews yet! Avoided them before I filmed the video but now I’m gonna have to give them a look 👀 (sorry to scare you Kerry🤧)

Musical Dinosaur

a little sad you didn't enjoy this album as much as I did, but appreciated the reaction nonetheless. agree some of the middle tracks weren't favs of mine but overall I liked the vibe of the album

Musical Dinosaur

Also complete side note, but that description is reminding me how you said you weren't sure you wanted to put out your HSMTMTS s3 reactions. Considering it's been almost a year since that season came out, I'm sure you're not gonna put it out now, but I'm wondering if you ever plan to?

Soren

Will you please upload the HSMTMTS reactions you didn’t love too? 🥺

Soren

Wrote this comment before seeing Musical Dinosaur’s comment. Great minds!!

Lillianna Reyes

I feel like I’m the only one who loves this album so whole heartedly 😅 all the middle songs we’re slow I will agree but they were so great IMO that I didn’t mind them slowing the album down. The contortionist, Leeches, and Evil are my faves. I appreciate your reaction and your honesty❣️(I hope this didn’t deter you from still giving her After School EP a chance)

Michael Beveraggi

Thank you for sharing this Lillianna! I’m happy you shared as I’ve been curious as to some of your faves. Also I promise I’m not deterred, I actually just bought the k-12 vinyl yesterday! No deferment at all here from the EP ♥️

thats valid! as scary as they are I'm hoping more visuals come out and shed new light onto some of the songs. idk one thing I love about her previous albums is that most of the songs make you feel something and you have to stop and really take in the messages she's portraying and I feel like most of this album lacked that for me unfortunately :(

cass

i really wanted to like this album, but was a bit disappointed. the singles were good, but I just couldn’t get into the rest of it🙃

Dennis Rhoberts

This album is already doing a lot more for me than K-12, sonically speaking. I really enjoyed it overall. My top 3 rn would be VOID, NYMPHOLOGY, and EVIL. (Also so cool that she produced VOID herself!) I actually loved the muffled vocals in EVIL bc I felt like Mel was using it as an effect to portray how she was feeling, but I completely understand how some wouldn’t be a fan. I appreciate Melanie as an artist for not being afraid to take more risks and be unconventional, even if she occasionally misses the mark with a few tracks. Thank you for giving your honest reaction! ❤️

OKAY so prior to work I listened to Death up until Spiderweb, and now i just finished listening to Leeches till the end of the album and these are my final thoughts... I really was hyped and anticipating this album but it ended up being underwhelming. my faves were: death, tunnel vision, battle of the larynx, the contortionist and moon cycle was fun, we love a good period anthem. Although i call these my faves off the album, that's just all they are. they are the ones i enjoyed the most compared to the others. does that mean I'm going to go out of my was to listen to these on my morning train rides or walks? there's a 99% chance i won't. as of now i only have death downloaded and that was when it was first released but honestly I usually skip over it when it comes on shuffle. I LOVED the chorus of evil but didn't fuck with the rest of it. I honestly didn't hate Nymphology, tho once again is not something i would listen to again. You definitely hit the nail on the head by saying that cry baby and k-12 were amazing projects and it's tough to follow it up. I wonder if this had been her debut album if i would have enjoyed it more not having her previous albums in my head. I agree with u on her lyrics, they are always amazing she truly is a poet. (also Michael, can u check ur messages when u have the chance I have a question about custom requests!)

Indre Duobaite

My top 3 are the same right now with THE CONTORTIONIST and probably LEECHES being very close but I only listened to the album for the first time a few hours ago so who knows how it will change

Indre Duobaite

I feel the same and my top songs are also the same. I would just add NYMPHOLOGY and VOID to my absolute favourite list too. I was scared to listen to the album because I really wanted to love it just like the rest of Mel's discography. I grew up with her music and she was my favourite artist for so many years so I waited for the right time to listen to it which I just did 2 hours ago and I literally can't stop listening to it which is so rare for me. It's constantly growing on me and I couldn't be happier about it. At first, the middle songs felt too slow and dragging for me but they grew on me a lot already 🥰) However, the second half of the album and especially THE CONTORTIONIST, NYMPHOLOGY and EVIL were absolutely amazing to me on the first listen. During those 3 songs I was sitting there with my open mouth just shocked at how good they were and it really felt like Melanie was truly back!

Jade Hunter

I feel you that it wasn't the best album on first listen, but with more and more listens, I've come to enjoy it a ton. I might be biased because (in my opinion) Crybaby and K-12 aged pretty poorly over the years (there are only a handful of songs I go back to tbh), and Portals has already aged better for me. I feel like this sound would have been more expected from Melanie if you listened to her After School EP, as there was a pretty dramatic shift from K-12. This album just gives me such good feelings because of the specific point of view and aesthetic, like nobody except Melanie could put this project out. I hope this grows on you like it did me, but not every project is going to be enjoyed by everyone, and that's okay! <3

Maya

I completely understand what u mean. For me personally I love the album lyrically but it kinda lacked that special Mel touch in the production area of the album. It was still good but k12 and crybaby were great

Raul Oliva

Could you react to her EP After School it was released before Portals, I personally love it thanks for this reaction always a pleasure seeing your reactions
