There are a couple great stretches on this album for me on first listen, there are also a couple stretches where I felt disengaged by the content, not sure if it was the tempo of consecutive songs, or the day. Just a heads up, I normally scrap reactions (been a few) where I don't feel engaged start to finish but a few people had asked for this one. (a handful of these tracks are also big time 2nd listen growers)

Such a good reaction! I think most people had a similar reaction to you when this first came out and the album really grew to be a cult favorite among fans after more time had passed. I’m so curious to see what your reaction to born to die and ultraviolence will be because they are the first projects she released but still hold up even now a decade later as favorites among the fanbase - Taylor is even known for crediting Lana as an inspiration so it’d be interesting to see if you can see that within those first two albums

Haha my favorites are the ones you didn’t like…go figure. I stopped listening to Lana after this album because I couldn’t connect to her anymore but listening back with you I realized that I was a seriously depressed girl and that’s why those songs you didn’t like connected with me so much…she was me. With her music you have to let her take you somewhere and usually it’s somewhere dark. When I listen to the last song I always cry 🤷🏻‍♀️ don’t want to go too much into it but as a child I witnessed my mother write on the wall with her blood and I remember the pain she was in and it just hits so hard. Her music is very specific to her feelings and if you can’t see yourself in it then you have to see it as her story or else it won’t work. Ultra violence is still my favorite but this one I really loved. Thank you for your reaction.

Hey Mike, this album was a grower for me as well and I can 100% confirm it hits so different on vinyl. So glad you loved Cinnamon Girl it's probably my fav on the album! Based on how you felt about this album I'm BEGGING you to listen to "Preacher's Daughter" by Ethel Cain. It's my AOTY for 2022 by far (and I'm a huge swiftie so that's definitely saying something lol). It has a similar americana aesthetic to NFR, but its quite a bit darker there is way more experimenting with genre and production. Most of the songs are completely self-written and self-produced. And the album tells a linear story that is so impactful that I thought about it for weeks after I heard it the first time. (I especially think you'll enjoy it now that you seem to be using genius/reading lyrics for some of your reactions, bc the story of the album is fictional and ethel has used tumblr to really flesh out the characters and the storyline so genius really helps you follow it). Ethel wanted to go to film school before becoming a musician so she wrote the story of the album like a movie and the music is meant to be like the soundtrack, if that makes sense. I could not recommend it enough, everytime I listen to it I think about how much I think you'd like it. Sorry for ranting lol, happy Thanksgiving!

i feel like a lot of lana fans love this album because it shows so much growth from previous albums. personally my favorite album of Lana’s is Ultraviolence, but NFR is definitely a grower and there are some incredible tracks on this album.

I understand not wanting negative energy on the channel, or not wanting to hurt people who love the artist/album. BUT it is definitely more genuine that way, and I love to hear what it is about certain songs/albums that don’t quite land with him. Helps guide my custom requests as well 😉

I really appreciate your honesty. I'd much rather you say that you don't like something than fake it. The people who do that are so obvious and it's kind of annoying. I love Lana and have since Born to Die released, but I don't love every one of her songs. Just like I don't love every song by Taylor and Little Mix. I actually agree, I thought 8, 9, and 10 were kind of forgettable for my first several listen. It took me a couple months to finally enjoy those, and I actually really do now. Cinnamon Girl was immediately and still is my favorite song off the album. It's one of my top 5 Lana songs. That song still gives me chills sometimes. Anyway, I'm glad the album finished on a higher note for you. I know this album was critically acclaimed, and it's a fan favorite, but it's not my favorite album of hers. I'd actually probably rank it like 3rd or 4th. Also you mentioned Lana doing a Disney song, well fun fact, she actually did one. She covered Once Upon a Dream for the Maleficent movie with Angelina Jolie. I mean it is Disney, but it's still very much Lana vibes.

I also appreciate the honesty, i would hate to only always see good reviews on everything. I felt the same about this album at first, some somgs i couldnt even get through and then like 6months later i revisited the album and loved or liked most of them so idk thats how it is sometimes lol

OMG I went to check and I can't play any of the videos that were from vimeo. I just rewatched one of them yesterday without any problem. I hope it's just a today issue from te platform or something. These videos are my comfort content to rewatch :(

Little late to the party, but finally watching this! I also love that you give your honest reaction, always with respect. I think Lana is unique and amazing in what she does, but I don't love every song or album as a whole.. I really like this one, my favorites are Venice Bitch, Cinnamon Girl, Doin Time,Hope is a dangerous thing.., Happiness, Fuck it I love you, The greatest.. Would love to watch you dive into more Lana!
