If this family is rich rich than mine is definitely poor poor. Michael you are more than welcome to come but all I can offer is cook outs and spade tournaments lmao

I really enjoyed your reaction! I didn’t know you were Dominican lol I am too. It’s great to see how open minded you are and how you think, I love it! Considering how our culture can also be very closed minded

That game is called mohjang, it is a very complex game of tiles that is played in China and other parts of east Asia. The rules are diverse and I have very little idea how it is played except you try to get 3 of a kind or a series 3-4-5 etc and certain combos together result in a "win". Usually you need 4 people to play and my grandmother and her friends would play with friends for days at a time, it can be very addictive.

She had the winning tile in her hand but deliberately gave it up to the mother knowing it would give the mother a winning hand, so it was a show of both power and generosity to give up her own victory and satisfy her opponent.

Michelle Yeoh is an excellent actress. That one look on her face when she goes to see Nick and realizes in a glance how much her son despises her for what she has done, then the next expression is one of silent apology all in a second or two, no words exchanged but a whole book worth of emotions communicated. It is a common fault of Asian families (including my own) that we can't communicate properly how we really feel, so many lost opportunities to really understand and accept and love each other, burdened by expectations and demands and cultural baggage that is so difficult to shed. Brilliantly illustrated in this movie (though it is just a bit too crazy rich which can get a bit disconcerting because it seems too much like a royal princess fairy tale - what if the characters were just regular middle class Asians who were trying to find true love? The mood would be very different. Still really enjoyed the movie though.

Heartstopper for pride month!!!

I did not see anyone else mention it, but Jon Chu, the director of this movie, is also the one who directed In The Heights with Lin!

Omg, my niece had me watch it with her, it was so sweet!!! She came out to her mom and my brother(Her step-dad) a year or so ago, she really related to Charie because she was being bullied last year. She has been showing everyone in the family Heartstopper!

Great movie. Astrid is Gemma Chan and the ellen hair cut girl was Aquafina.

👏👏👏👏👏💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Loved this movie so much—saw it every weekend it was in the theaters. I think it was the 1st all Asian-cast major film feature since Joy Luck Club. It single-handedly revived the rom-com genre.

BTW, Kevin Kwan authored the trilogy of which Crazy Rich Asians is the 1st—super-hilarious & if people thought this was way over-the-top rich people, the books are even several levels above what’s shown in the movie.

The emerald ring is Michele Yeoh’s—she lent it to the production because they couldn’t find a ring magnificent enough for the engagement ring.

There’s a funny story about director John Chu writing a letter to Chris Martin to personally to get OK to use it (I’m sure Google knows—my energy is waning fast to do it myself). Chris Martin/Coldplay are very choosy about allowing their music to be used. It was significant that they let BTS sing Fix You on the MTV appearance. (There’s an ugly story about a German radio host so offended that BTS sullied the song that he said racist things + wished BTS a 20yr ‘vacation’ in North Korea. Fortunately ARMY & BTS featured collabs artists demanded an apology. Result: that German host lost his program.
