i cannot WAIT for your reaction to season 2

With the jules episode, everything she says in therapy about what women go through and feel is extremely accurate! also not a spoiler but despite how entertaining season 2 is, its poorly written and we sadly get no further character development for Jules so thank god we got this amazing episode. rewatching this after watching s2 is sad cos she had to much potential to be the best character if the creator of the show didnt rob us of it

I really love these episodes. I think Jules' episode is so interesting because we never saw her point of view, and it really shows how the whole show is Rue's perspective of things, which can be very bias or lose a lot of the story. For example, we just saw kinda simple conversations between Jules and 'Tyler' in season 1, but this episode shows that they spoke a lot more and deeper than what Rue told us. Season 1 made it seem like a silly, immature crush Jules had, while from Jules' perspective it was a real relationship with 'Tyler'.

Disclaimer: I am a cis woman and cannot speak properly to what it means to be transgender, but it’s always something very important to also consider when discussing topics regarding gender, of course. To answer your inquiry about Jules’ description of how women size each other up…I feel like it’s a yes and no type of answer, like a lot of other things…it’s complicated. No intending to sound melodramatic, the patriarchy continues to constantly pit women (and men) against each other, to this day. Whether it’s beauty standards or in other areas (but so overwhelming with beauty standards, femininity, and everything that goes along with all of it). When you are raised as a woman in our society, you have to unlearn toxic masculinity and patriarchal ideas just like everyone else, and moreover it’s extremely internalized. Not to mention the individualistic nature of our society as well. Even when you try to work through all that shit, and want to be a powerful woman who brakes molds and “conquers femininity”, it can bite you in the ass as you could get caught up in trying to be the “best woman”. Women continuously break each other down for any number of reasons that they’re not “being a woman” in the way that they deem “correct” (whatever that may look like). And including the extra layers of being trans on top of that…it’s a whole other can of worms, as you might imagine. All that to say, it’s really hard. You try to do “good” and you still catch yourself comparing others to yourself, or just to others. It’s a lot to constantly try to work through. (Additionally, I believe similar things could be said about men as well, and I like to remember that men are also victims of the patriarchy.)

**And as always, I loved the reaction! I love your appreciation for the show and everything it offers. Thank you!

add on to that being a lesbian (for me personally too) and coming to terms that you’re not attracted to someone that the whole of SOCIETY revolves around and it’s really hard :/

As a woman, I can say that interactions with other women can be brutal at times because I do think we judge one another whether we realize it or not. We either consciously or subconsciously try to find flaws within each other and I think what Jules says about women looking at each other to see where we each fit in our own perfect idea of the world is 100% true. We're taught from a young age to pit ourselves against each other rather than support each other as women.
